Proof of Accommodation & Affidavit when applying for NLV

Michael McProuty

As noted in the subject line, I have two questions regarding the filing of the Non-Lucrative Visa application in the United States. First, if I do not have an address in Spain [planning to secure living quaters after arrival], what address do I entered in the application form? Second, does anyone have an example of an affidavit to be submitted with the application? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for such.

Can you please clarify the exact instructions/affidavit you're referring to?

It was my understanding that the NLV does NOT need proof of your address in Spain.

It works exactly as you suggest: you get your NLV, then you fly to Spain and get yourself a place to live (either by renting or buying). Your proof of residence and your Padron certificate (registration of your residence at the local town hall) is needed for your TIE application (biometric residence permit for non-EU citizens). You must apply for your TIE soon after you arrive in Spain.

As you're applying in the US, the main contact info for the application form would be your USA address/phone. I'm sure they'd be OK with your address in Spain being just your preferred city/province.

In terms of affidavits, I don't think the NLV needs any! It needs some proofs (proof of funds, proof of health insurance) but these are appropriate documents (savings/income bank statements and policy documents) rather than affidavits. I think I recall the Spanish consulate in Los Angeles having some additional requirements that are not standard for the NLV. So, for example, you write a simple sworn declaration that you will not work in Spain. And you sign it at the notary and get an official stamp.

First, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your response and your provision of timely information to me and others. It is much appreciated.

The reason I asked the question about the affidavit is that on the Item 8 at the official Spanish website [https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/washington/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/Consular/Visado-de-residencia-no-lucrativa.aspx] specifies the requirements for the affidavit I inquired about. However, a gentlemen has previously reported that he prepared such a document for presentation at the D.C. Consular office, but that it was not needed. I am applying at the same Consular office and was seeking clarifiaction between the official website and the previous post.
