Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Kolkata ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Kolkata?

Thanks in advance for participating!

There are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_in_Kolkata
I often go by taxi, rickshaw, auto-rickshaw, and bus.
Taxi drivers often demand an exorbitant amount, but many of them will go by meter.
Rickshaw prices have gone up about 100% in the last year. One year ago, my wife and I went to church for 15 rupees. For Ramadan, they charged 30 rupees, but seem to have gone down to 25 rupees.
Buses are cheap; it is about 5 rupees to get from Central to Howrah. But you always have to be careful that the bus driver does not hit and kill a pedestrian and then run from the bus (as you have undoubtedly read in the newspapers).

If you really want to travel alone in the city so the best and the cheap way would be using public transport. Public transport is provided by the Kolkata Suburban Railway, the Kolkata Metro, trams, and buses. The suburban rail network reaches the city's distant suburbs.
Compared to other metropolitan cities transportation in Kolkata is very cheap.
