Im currently living in the Boca Chica area of Dominican Republic.  I need to return to the US as my job is requiring fulltime in the office. My landlord said if I break the lease he would file a lien on my passport so that i cant leave the country. Can this civil matter affect my immigration status?

Yes he can but it takes time, he can't do anything until you are 90 days in arrears. If you have a deposit the landlord can keep that. Otherwise it's likely an empty threat!

@kobymglass1 Do you have residency here? If so, you might have trouble renewing if you have a legal judgment against you. Probably best to pay a penalty and walk away rather than risk legal action.
