Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in the Maldives  ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed? What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in the Maldives ?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Hello everybody!
For land transport, motorbikes and small cars are common especially in Male', If you want to travel from island to island, you can take a passenger boat (dhoani) or by a seaplane (Mathindhaa boat). Taxi is also common in the area where they charge minimum of $1.30 or Mrf 20 for a single journey, regardless of the distance.  Passenger boat charges Mrf  3-5 per person for a 5-10 minutes transfer from Male to other nearby island. There is also a newly provided bus by the government to travel back and forth to its main Street (Magu) that charges a fix amount of Mrf 5. Taking the public transport is safe, but the only issues are that there are some motorbiker that doesn’t follow speed limit and doesn’t care to slow down if they reached corners and intersections. You need to be a defensive driver.
Basically, I walk to go places to another, Motorbike is also good for more distant places but I’m taking a taxi if I have a load to carry.
