Hello all. Hope all are doing good. Just wana know how long a Belgian can stay out of Belgium without getting deregistered(removed from population register) in the records of town hall/commune?

Short-term absence: If you wish to leave Belgium for less than three months, you do not need to do anything and you will retain your right of residence and the right to return to Belgium.

@SimCityAT Thanks for pointing out. Its an explanation more suitable/pointing towards persons who are foreigners, like they mention residence permits and right to permanent residence. I wanted to know something more close or relevant for Belgians.

ABS25

@SimCityAT and secondly, what if someone is removed from population registers. His previous residence history goes to zero? Or its just that his Belgian ID is deactivated? and it will be re activated on his return to Belgium.

@ABS25 I think that you have to deregister yourself if you are absent for more than a year. Your residence history does not go to zero and your Belgian ID doesn not get deactivated. Its just that you are not registered in Belgium anymore. ID stays active. If you register yourself at the  belgian embassy or consulate in the country where you stay, you will be able to renew your passport and ID too. When you come back to Belgium, you just go to the commune and register yourself back again

Greetings

Are you now a Belgium citizen?

ABS25

@SimCityAT Yes off course. That's why am asking

@Orion28 Thanks a lot for responding. So you mean automatic de registration by the commune happens after absence of  one year? Or after one year max, we must de register from commune and register somewhere else in the embassy of that country? That means if we do entry exit twice in a year or once in a year, its fine?

No its not automatic. Before, the rule was that you should deregister yourself if you wont be living here for more than a year.

I advice you to call the commune office regarding your questions, they can give better clarification.

You are asking silly questions. Why would you have your citizenship revoked if you leave the country?

No you did not get it. I did not even write the word revoke anywhere in my post or previous comments. Its not even the topic. Please read again and share your opinion if you want. Thanks

Maybe you need to understand the words you post to the meaning of them. Instead of asking on an internet forum, ask at the Commune.

Oh really? Haha. It is quite obvious i am taking about Belgians leaving Belgium for a certain period of time and its link to de registration at the town hall . Now revocation of citizenship and de registration at the town hall due to long stay outside the country are really two different topics. Please understand the difference first and I think you need to stop assuming things and associating meanings to the words of others. And lastly, if everything can be asked at the commune, may be you could ask the admins to shut down the forum or just write ask at the commune to response of every query. Its a free suggestion btw.

Please, stop asking stupid questions. If you are a Belgian national you do not lose your nationality for leaving the country, for 1, 5. 10, 20, 100 years.

Loosing nationality and de registration at the town hall/commune are two different things. If you do not know it, please stop commenting.
