My 44 year old Cambodian wife might need to have a hysterectomy, does anyone know the cost in a public hospital in Phnom Penh or would it be cheaper with better treatment in Vietnam.

Thailand is way better but not close to free. Medical for Cambodians in cambodia is nearly free but you get what you pay for

Vietnam is cheaper than Thailand and doctors and emplyees are very professionals, i have been in hospitals in the 2 countries, ( in Cambodia too ) and if it was for me i would choose Vietnam.

I have experienced the Cambodian public hospital and also a private medical facility. The medical care in the public hospital in terms of actual treatment, drugs, specialists etc is generally to a good standard. However that is all you get - you have to buy your own food from outside, there are no hospital porters if you need assistance, they don't provide any personal care, and the washing / toilet facilities are really basic. I had difficulty walking and the relatives of a nearby patient kindly helped me to get around. Obviously a private clinic is better but more expensive (not too bad though - a friend of mine had a hernia operation at a clinic in Siem Reap, cost around $500. Another friend has a cyst removed last week costing around $75).
