Cyprus personal tax reporting

phildraper

I have been working with a local firm regarding the tax reporting but they have been very unresponsive and blase . I am not confident they are working on it and I do not want to get any issues with the authorities or fines. I do not know at this stage if I need to make a declaration or pay any tax due. I have been here since Dec 2023 and the tax registration mentions initiation date as the 1st Jan 2023.

Has anyone got experience of a company who can deal with tax reporting in a timely manor and respond to emails ?

hi, if you arrived in december 2023 you are not tax resident in cyprus for that fiscal year (jan-dec 2023) so as a non resident you should declare only income arising or connected to cyprus.

in a nutshell: are you sure you are obliged to file for 2023?

p.s. the above is valid if your country of origin does not have a "split year clause" in the treaty, in such case you may be in a special situation which is hard to define for me.

Thank you. I might not have to make a declaration but will still need a reliable accountant and the current one is not communicating so time for a change. Do you do your own returns or have a recommended accountant?

Edited.as I noted a previous post and it may be you have used the person referred to before.... Speak to Nick Cairns at Blevins Franks a good guy and well versed in tax and wealth matters. 10 years ago he gave us the best advice we could possibly have been given... And I now know him personally.

I concur with the philotimo that I believe that you are not required to declare or complete a tax return for 2023... Your first year to declare will be this year 2024 which you will declare and complete a Return for in 2025..

I would also suggest you check on your requirement to file with and in accordance with when you officially became tax resident as it can make a substantial financial difference  both here and UK as regards dual taxation etc... am confident that you know this though

I did meet Nick a few months ago as they gave a talk at the sailing club. I have left a message for him to call me. I also contacted ProAct as they have been advertising on Rock FM but I was really hoping that someone would have a recommendation as sadly my experience so far with companies here even staffed by Brits they do not respond and do not give me any confidence in their ability :-/ It does seem island mentality but I was hopeful there would be a firm that stood out lol

If I do not need to make a return that will be fine but I just need to be able to get an understanding of dates to be aware of given I have a foot in the UK and Cyprus tax camp at the moment.

Usually online tax return will be issued onto the taxis net platform by april and you have until july to complete and submit them unless you do a split year remittance
