Transporting a camper

Post new topic

Maryhands

Hi, I'm new here. Good to join the group!  Can you help? I need to arrange for a small new Hero camper to be transported from Grandola to Setubal. We can’t  tow it yet as the registration process is being held up so i understand it’s not legal on the road. This process is a nightmare.

will a local garage be the first place to start? I don’t speak  the language.

Hi,

Hero tend to be lightweight - less than a car so car transporters will carry them, find the weight and go in person to local garages. You'll look for the sort of garage which does mechanical work not a car sales place. If they don't have a trailer/truck themselves they probably know someone local who moves vehicles for them.  When my Fiat broke down I just walked to the nearest petrol station and they called a local (who used to live in London) who had a small transporter.  If you have no luck then checkt he back pages of the on-line English language Portuguese "newspapers" which often carry domestic and international transport companies adverts.

Hi !

There are breakdown and towing companies all over the place, and your insurance may even cover the cost of your journey.

All the best.

Obviously there is way to tow a caravan if it not yet registered here.   In the UK there is no mandatory registration of trailer/caravan so it just carries the number plate of the towing vehicle, this also applies for UK reg vehicles and their attached caravans/trailers in the EU so an UK reg vehicle with it's driver can just slap their number plate on the back of a caravan and (assuming tyres, lights, UK driving licence  etc are legal) away it goes.

@Strontium

Hi and many thanks for your heloful replies.

As we have now sold our uk car and now have one bought over here, we can’t tow the camper. We didn’t

realise this at the time.

Hopefully we will now be able to get it sorted!
