Crafting in Hungary

Post new topic

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Discovering and participating in the artisan culture  in Hungary  is an opportunity not only to enrich your personal knowledge, but also to forge authentic connections with the locals. More than just a hobby, it is a gateway to integration and a deep understanding of the traditions that shape the cultural identity of Hungary, making your own experience more meaningful.

What opportunities are available for residents to participate in workshops or training in Hungary? Are there any places or occasions to learn or practice local crafts?

What craft practice have you had the opportunity to try or would you like to try? What were your impressions?

How has discovering and participating in the local artisan traditions enriched your experience as an expat?

What challenges have you faced in trying to get involved in the artisanal culture of your host country? How have local artisans welcomed your interest in their traditional crafts?

What advice would you give to expats who want to explore craft culture in Hungary ?

If you have any other relevant information on the local artisan culture, please feel free to share it.

Thank you for your contribution.

Szentendre would be the place to explore the arts in Hungary.

Many artists live and work there and have galleries.

My husbands cousin was a famous wood carver who made many statues for different villages within Hungary.

His brother is a artist in Swizterland left Hu in 1956 and made his living by his art work.

Sadly this cousin in Szentendre passed away shortly after we reconnected with him.

Know another guy who has an art gallery in Buda but he sells copies of paintings, none of them were done by him.

Knew several HU painters in the US, they both came to HU to have a show in a gallery but this was years ago, both have also passed now.

So many people paint here, even my doctors waiting area has paintings hung up that are for sale.

Once in the 5th district I went to a new hairdresser, maybe 12 years ago?

As I laid back in the shampoo bowl I got an eye full.

On the ceiling there were several painting hung up of nudes, all for sale.

It seems everyone is an artist here.

In Las Vegas my German friend ,no artist owns and operates a craft show.

If anyone wishes to try to sell their items in Vegas, the Las Vegas Arts and Crafts Show is the place to try.

She has events all the time inside large casinos or out in the open air at a mall with tents etc.

ATM, my friend who is handicapped and can only use one hand and only a few fingers on that hand, is cutting glass to make a stained glass object for a friend of hers. Grinding, matching glass, solder even welding at times.

It is good to have a hobby but making a profit on it is another matter.
