Hi folks

I'm new to the forum I'm looking to buy a property in Bulgaria later this year with a view to a permanent move early next year. I'm looking for a semi rurall location and the big must is reliable Internet as I will be working full time from home with teams meetings lasting all day. Any information on on villages with best internet would be great I was looking at Vidin or around Veliko Tarnovo but the big must is internet any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Rob

Internet is either very good or non-existent it seems.

I managed fine with 4g through my phone, but changed to home wi-fi about a year ago, it’s 10-12 leva per month and we can stream TV in two rooms and use other devices with no problems.

However some places seem to be bad for home providers and mobile signal, I know two lots of friends have ended up with Starlink.

I’m not in either of the regions you mentioned so hopefully people can give more local advice.

BTW make sure you can get a D Visa, you cant get it just by working remotely. maybe the trade rep or freelancer option would apply to your situation if you aren’t yet retired.

As HelenD says, it's very much hit or miss. A lot of villages have small fibre optic providers with great speeds while others have 4g if you're lucky.

This site is good, it shows what's available in many towns/villages, use it with Google translate.

I imagine it does vary, but Bulgaria is considered to have pretty good connectivity. Even if your particular village doesn't have a high-speed wired option, most places have decent mobile coverage, which allows you to address it this way.

Our village is next to the Balkan Mountains, and I thought it was a bit out in the sticks... but the local provider brought a fibre cable to house and I have 100 Mbps WiFi for 23 leva per month (no contract, pay as you go). I have a MiFi box with a separate data SIM as a backup. Remote working in a Bulgarian village is a great option, as you get lovely countryside, low local costs, and a high(er) foreign income. Good luck!

in villages around Shumen, we have 25-50mbs options... I think Vidin's region villages would lack an internet connection, you will have better luck with Veliko Turnovo regions. You can ask providers if they have service to the village which you plan to move.

Thanks everyone

Your advice is very much appreciated

Veliko Turnovo is university town- therefore- good internet!

In regards to weather- you need to brace yourself for brutal winters. Not kidding!!!

Hi folks has anyone used realestateinbulgaria.com before for purchasing a property.Thank you

I think they've been selling on ebay for many years -- the properties that say "Consult us" for the price look very similar to ones that are currently for auction on ebay. They specialise in the Vidin region, north-west corner of Bulgaria. But I don't know anything else about them.
