Dear all,
Hope you are doing grea!!
Last month (March) I submitted my application for Belgian Nationalityin Evere Town Hall. I was informed that I will receive a letter from commune in a month, however, I did not receive any thing until now?
Does this mean that counter of 4-5 months is not started yet?
Please share your experience.
Thanks a lot!!

yes, you should at least get a paper stating tbat your appication had been forwarded to the public prosecutor on date………
@M_K_S
When you submitted the documents did they give you anything or did you sign on any paper?
if yes, then they registered it immediately.
I did not receive any document from anywhere after I submitted the application. In 2 months the Police arrived and then after another 1.5 months I could see on mijndossier that my nationality option was enabled and the date it was approved.
I did not wait for the city hall to send me a document about the status and in fact I already applied and received my nationality card and passport and after that I got a letter from the city that my application for nationality was approved.
@peterjohn1104 Thanks for your quick response! Yes, they said with in 3-4 week you will get it. I think this is the document I am yet to receive by post from commune.
@BMM996210 Thanks for your response! Ahh great, it means that I may or may not get the update from coummune that my file is forwarded to further.
Yes, they gave me a document when I submitted my application - Art. 12 Bis /Accuse de reception.
Hey everyone,
I have applied for the Nationality on 19th of Nov 2023, however I received a letter from the commune that my file was sent on 19th of December. Its been more than 4 months after I received that letter but no response yet. The only thing that I'm afraid of is the social integration. I have a master and PhD in Belgium and I gave my PhD diploma as a proof of social integration. the PhD diploma that I gave its the Dutch version but on a second page somewhere its written that the language of the education was English. Also the clerk a the commune didn't get all my pay slips, only for 2021 and 2022 which proved that I have worked more than 468 days. and also I have a B2 Dutch level. So now I would like to see if anyone has applied with the same situation (with Phd diploma) and whether it will be accepted as a proof of social integration or not?
@drkhangholi
Hi,
- Did you already have your police check? --> if yes -- How did it go?
- Have you checked on mijndossier if your nationality tab is enabled?
- Check on mijndossier for the history log to see if there is any activities.
- Which commune have you applied with?
@BMM996210
Hey,
I applied In Brussels, here there is normally no police check. I checked mondossier, there has been some activities from FOD binnelandse zaken, but I don't see any changes yet in my status. The nationality tab is not enabled yet.
@drkhangholi
Hi, ok, so they still have not completed your process.
In the whole flow the prosecutor has 4 months to decide on your application and give their feedback for a negative response.(The police check is part of this flow).
If this time is passed in general it means your application is completed from their side (perhaps auto completed)... Then the city can take about 1-2 months to complete the admin work for your application...
The only thing you can now do is to wait and see when that link gets activated...
@BMM996210
OK, thanks! Yes I guess I have no other solution except waiting, but do you know anything about the PhD Diploma as a proof of social integration, if it is accepted or not? or purely depends on the procurator ?
Cheers
@drkhangholi hi, is your Masters and PhD diploma given in any of the 3 official languages?
@brla15 Hey, The diploma itself is in Dutch, but the language of the program was in English and it is mentioned in the third page of the Diploma. I did not know that it should have been one of the three official languages when applying, I only found out later and the clerk at the commune didn't mention anything either. also this is my second time applying, the first time it was rejected because my birth certificate was not legalized, however the first time they did not make an issue of PhD diploma/social integration.
@drkhangholi
When your birth certificate wasn't legalized, did you still have a Birth Certificate on https://mondossier.rrn.fgov.be/ portal?
I'm asking because I had legalized my birth certificate for my commune marriage 3 years ago, my legalized birth certificate was submitted to the commune which later uploaded it my mondossier.
As I'll aiming to apply for Citizenship later this year, I wanted to know if I can just use the Mondossier birth certificate or I have to "re-legalized" my birth certificate for the citizenship application process?
Thanks.
@tunde4elohim No I guess since it was not legalized they did not upload it on mondossier. However the new one although legalized through the Belgian consulate, I still cant find it there on mondossier.
The clerk at the commune told me the legalization should be 6 months old. However I know many cases that they have applied with an old birth certificate of several years and they got the nationality .
@drkhangholi When they rejected you the first time, how long it took from the time of application till you received your rejection? As far as I know, the diploma or studies can be counted if done in the official language. But for PhD, may be you can be considered as worker not as a student.
@ARMaliq I think it was 3 or 4 days after the deadline it got rejected. as far as I know higher education diploma including phd can be accepted as social integration if its obtained in one of the 3 languages, but yeah. last rejection they did not mention anything about this.
@drkhangholi
Thanks for your response, in that case I guess it's safe to use my already uploaded mondossier borth certificate?
@drkhangholi hi. unfortunately, you cannot use the PhD as proof of social integration as the medium of instruction itself has to be in any of the 3 official languages. you can still opt for the social orientation course, though. i took mine for 2 weeks and purely online via Amal (Gent).
I applied couple of months ago. All documents were okay. I have A2 level dutch and have been working for 6 years and have done the integration course.
But my police visit did not go well.
The police was nice but he expected me to communicate fully in dutch. I was not able to. I answered some in broken dutch and some in English. The person told language is very important for nationality and wrote it in the feedback he was taking in his tab.
How likely is my application going to be rejected.
Thanks very much fellow expats for being supportive with sharing your experiences on this platform. I came across this platform during my application for nationality and thankfully it helped a lot. I had my nationality approved exactly 3months after application in Antwerp.
Thanks to all
@Blinxx
Congratulations!
Did you have a police visit btw?
Congratulations! is there anyone that is waiting to receive Nationality or recently received and applied at Etterbeek commune (Brussels) ?
looking to understand the total time take and if you were informed by the commune. Thanks!
Hello
my husband also waiting for nationality response he submit in schaerbeek comune in feb and they said 4 to 6 month wait period
and please tell le how to open mondossier please share the link please
@zarminaibrar You must have received a letter from Schaerbeek commune that your application has been forwarded. What was the date mentioned on it? You should start counting from that date.
To access the dossier, visit this link and use your ID card to log in and see your consultation history or if your nationality has been updated.
https://www.ibz.rrn.fgov.be/nl/rijksreg … n-dossier/
Let us know when you get your application approved as well, please. This will help others to track their estimated timeline or waiting time.
@Nothing_serious35
Thanks. No police visit . It was exactly 3months after application. Normally I checked mondossier on the 3rd month and already saw the nationality certificate ready. couple of days later, I recieved the letter and made appointment for the ID and passport same day
@ARMaliq yes we receive the letter from commune that this feb 29 our file is sent to the concern person and our file starts and also we dont have card reader is it possible we can open link without card reader and its almost 4 months now
@zarminaibrar
The link only opens with the card reader since the information is sensitive.
if you don't have a card reader, then the other option is to check with your city hall to check your status or wait for the letter from them (which can get delayed with the vacation period).
@zarminaibrar
Alternatively, you can use itsme to access irisbox ([link moderated]), then check if certificat de nationalité Belge is available or not.
@RyRy59 how to open with itsme as i check itsme app there is nothing not even in myy data
@zarminaibrar
You can register an itsme account by:
- Connecting you eID, but then you need a card reader
or
2. Linking it to your bank account
@RyRy59 i try to open it but it take me to bank website not to mondossier as his itsme already conected with the bank
@zarminaibrar
Sorry I misunderstood your previous message. If you've already got an itsme account, then you can use itsme to log in irisbox. On that website, you can find different certificates, including certificate of Belgian nationality and birth certificate (transcribed into Belgian registry).
@RyRy59 thankyou for the help it said no certificate available under nationalite its almost 4 months and no answer and not even police visit
will get card reader to know the status of application as irisbox only show the certiFicate
@zarminaibrar its good that you were able to investigate further in irisbox. When you have the card reader, you have the possibility to read which department consulted your file and to get info like nationality, birth certificate. Let us know when it changes to Belgian for your husband.
@ARMaliq for sure in irisbox its still said no document available under the nationality certificate once i bought card reader than it will be easy for us to know where the actually file is
After whole 4 months we receive en email from etacivil that my husband and my baby are now belgië ALAHAMDULLILAH
@drkhangholi hello can you help.me my nationality Rejected by Forgery of civil or commercial documents I am.live brussel I already appeal
@BMM996210 hello sir can you help me my nationality Rejected by Forgery commercial documents I am live in brussel I already appeal now I am.wait for the Court
