A friend engaged the services of a tax consultant, for first time Portugal income tax. Tax resident, US national. The consultant asks for Finanças login information?

Is this sort of typical, that one would give out the password to Finanças, to financial consultants?

The financial consultant doesn't need a password, but sometimes that's what happens. Your friend can log in, and then the consultant can guide him through the website, fill in the IRS tax returns, check the taxes to be paid, check any necessary information, etc. In any case, your friend can always change the password, after having submited/filed the first income tax.
