Looking for insights on job offer Chief Concierge in Doha

Post new topic

Santi Roggio

Dear All,

I hope this message finds you well.

My name is Santi, and I'm a 38-year-old Concierge currently living and working in Taormina, Sicily. I'm writing to seek your insights regarding a job offer I recently received from a luxury hotel based in Doha, Qatar.

While the proposed salary of 18,900 QAR (approximately €4,700) per month, inclusive of housing, transportation, and phone allowances, appears quite attractive compared to Italian standards, I'm cautious due to my lack of firsthand experience or knowledge from those residing in Qatar.

Therefore, I would be immensely grateful if anyone could provide me with some guidance on whether this compensation package is considered good, excellent, or merely acceptable, taking into account the living expenses in Doha.

Your valuable insights would greatly aid me in making an informed decision regarding this potential opportunity.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Best,

Santi

P.S. I would also appreciate any additional information or advice you may have regarding living and working in Doha as a Concierge.

Wilson

Welcome to expat Forum Qatar.

If you are single and don't do much activity on Weekends then this package is good to gain hand on experience.

Monthly food will cost single: varies from QR 1000 to 2000+. if dining out.

As you mention the housing, transportation and phone allowed provided which could save good sort of saving.

Santi Roggio

Hello Wilson,

Thank you for the reply.

I'm not single but, possibly, I will move alone initially. The hotel offered me also a family package that includes schooling for my kids and 10k (I am not sure if this is per kid) yearly.

Following the details:

About the salary. It’s calculated as below per month:

Basic salary = 9,000 QAR

Accommodation = 9,000 QAR

Transportation allowance = 750 QAR

Phone allowance = 200 QAR

Total per month = 18,900 QAR

Which is 4,750 Euros

Annual in Euros = 57,000 Euros

Family package and it covers schooling for 1 child 10,000 Euros Annually

Than you for your insight.

Wilson

Well  Santi Roggio if you plan to enroll your kids to Brit school then annually it will be approx around Qatar Per Kid 60K annually equivalent to Euros 15K- 16K excluding other expenses like Kids Transportation and extra activity fees.

Let me give an example: If the Employer provided live in housing which is included 9K then you will be left 9K basic will be hard to save enough depend on your daily expenses like groceries, outing, transportation, weekend activities  etc etc.

another option if you leave out from the employer accommodation and pay monthly housing allowance 9K you can find a decent housing depend on the locality you choose.

For example if your work place is west-bay you  plan to take a 1 BHK then you have to spend around 10K basic which will not included Water & Electricity.

Its all depend on the location you choose

If you go lit bit far and check out maybe you will get a decent accommodation ranging start from 5K.

And Car is must for daily travel When you have a family, decision on to buy a per-own or a new car, few places are not covered yet Metro/ tramp services so cab service again. depending on Metro/ tramp most of the time possible in-case if your office/ home location is near the prime location.

Check out Qatar living website you will get a idea looking at the range of accommodation price.

Feel free if you have more Question. Expat Forum is always here to help expats around the globe.

in-case if you didn't accept the offer yet try to negotiate.

Santi Roggio

Thank you Wilson.

Right now, the idea is moving alone and leave the family in Italy.

The hotel is located in Lusail, very close to The Pearl, however I found very good prices for accomodations in Al Sadd that, if I'm not mistaken, if about 20 minutes driving away. Some studios are quoted about 7k QAR including gym, pool and, sometimes, electricity.

I think I can contract a little the basic salary or the benefits (transportation could be super).

Considering also that the role could provide a few tips (but I'm not sure how tips are working Qatar).

Thank you again for your kindness. This is something totally new to me and I am still e evaluating if moving could be a good idea or not.

Wilson

Check with employer first accommodation provide means they will pay only the basic or total salary in hand or the day you leave out from the employer accommodation they will start paying encashment housing  allowance from the current month. Few policy are bidden by laws which you need to check as well.

And housing contract term agency takes 11 or 12 posted date checks and contract are as per Housing under ministry both parties documents are uploaded so in future if you break the  rental contract they will charge you a fees or extra rental to vacate the apartment.

Look for something where you can pay cash monthly rental to avoid such dispute in future

in-case if you plan to vacate in mid to a new accommodation it will be a hassle free non contract.
