Health care on Lesvos

Post new topic

Greetings - I am 60 and based in the US, considering relocating to Lesvos.

Are there medical specialists in Mitilini, or do you have to fly to Athens to see a specialist or have testing done (MRI, etc).

Thank you!

There is only one state hospital in Lesvos supposedly providing full medical services but in most cases of free medical care, you have long waiting times.. If you have private insurance coverage or are willing to be charged you can be taken care of immediately (this is provided for by a recent government decree). There are some emergency medical centers but these provide limited medical support. There are also several private doctors in the town of Mytilini. For serious medical cases though you would have to seek help in Athens. If you have known health issues I suggest that you call the state hospital and ask to talk to a GP at   +30 225 105 7700 or. better still, email the director of medical services: dir_medical@vostanio.gov.gr to get specific information.
