Are all arilines finally asking for an on going ticket from the DR?

Post new topic

windeguy

A report on Facebook said that allegedly all airlines are now asking for on going tickets if you are flying to the DR on a tourist card. This has been the rule for years, but it may be true that airlines are now actually being fined for not checking for that on going ticket out.

Anybody still getting on flights with just a ticket into the DR when flying to the DR on a tourist card? If so, which airline is still violating the regulations?   (Yes, I know there are "creative" work arounds to these regulations that travellers can use.)

@windeguy

Airlines are not connected with immigration  of the destination country on policy.

Airlines follow this policy (if they enforce) (return ticket) solely not to incure the cost of return flight, if the immigration of the country denied entry based on thier individual country immigration laws,  and if they denied entry (destination country) they (airlines) must provide a return flight back to the originating country of departure free of charge.

I just flew back on same airlines so not sure if they check when you check in with flight confirmation codes. Perhaps if you fly two different airlines.

My question is directed at people with only a flight into the DR and no on going flight.  It has been said just yesterday that these people are now being forced to purchase an on going ticket.

The DR government has regulatioms that airlines must check that all  non-residents have an on going flight.  This has been true for years.  Many airlines are delinquent in verifying this. Now they are being fined for not checking according to a someone who has a business here in the DR.

  • Ok
  • I based my answer only from leading a call center for a major airlines under best practices.
  • However, I'm also not a DR government offical, or DR lawyer , so I can't speak to your comment about DR regulatory affairs, laws and be confident it's totally 100% accurate as they (DR laws) can change so frequently in this country.

Ongoing ticket to where?

Is this reference 1 way ticket to the DR and must have a round trip purchased?

Confused about ongoing ticket

I am absoultely certain the the DR government has regulations that require all alrlines to ask people entering the DR on tourist cards to provide an on going ticket. That has been true for years and many airlines have been delinquent enforcing that regulation.  Yes the airline could be responsible for returning people to their home country and pay a fine for violating these reglations.

For those that want to avoid having an on going ticket, or  the fees for illegally overtaying a 30 day tourist card on departure, or to be able to drive more than 30 days legally in the DR by getting a DR driver's license, the DR has a legal residency program.

CHRISTOPHER DAVID56

@windeguy

Understood and OK again I can't debate;

I'm not a DR lawyer or DR government offical of Immigration/DGM.

Best of luck !

There is a legal advisor to this forum that can provide the legal versions of the answers,

An on going ticket means a ticket to leave the DR must be purchased. That can be done by having a round trip ticket which takes you back home or a ticket that takes you anywhere else in the world.  That is what is meant by on going, it covers both ways out of the DR and either will allow you to board your flight into the DR.

I will test it out for you soon as I have credit with one airline and and will book on different airline for return trip.

My experience: From Europe always checked and enforced. Via the US mostly not checked.

A returnflight past the 30 days has not been an issue for the check nor Eticket last time.

But don't you have residency?

I am going thru process now but does that matter?

Yes, if you are a resident or DR citizen, you don't enter on a visitor card, and the requirement doesn't apply to you.

Did not realize that. Do you still have to fill out a e ticket?

When you go though customs at entry and they put your passport into the machine and ask you for your thumb prints , they know where you’ve been , how many times you

been , and where you’ll be ,  so they actually know what you booked , besides what about people who cancel their return flight , so they can extend their vists , the airlines can’t be expected to track that for the  goverment , what about people who want to fly in and thier not sure when they want to return …..maybe ill stay for 7-10 days , and then decide to stay another week , or two , ? not everyone has a schedule to stick too , as a retiree i don’t , and with the international money system yer really can’t  run out of cash…..

visitor card or touristcards no longer purchased, airlines just built in to their price structure, am speaking traveling from the US, so everybody pays, tourists, residents, and dominican citizens. when you fill out your e ticket it offers you the opportunity to get reimbursed if you are a resident or DR citizen, but good luck with that trying to grt your money back

planner

Airline is responsible for ensuring you have a return ticket purchased when you board the plane. What happens after that is not their issue

ddmcghee

I am aware of the tourist card being built into the ticket price, and the only time I have not gotten reimbursed for it was when I waited more than 30 days after my trip to request it! Every other time, I've gotten the $10 credit within 3-5 days after submitting the request.

Yes - everyone, even Dominican citizens, must complete the eTicket.
