Any latest info on visa runs – rejections etc.?

Seems the one-year extendable business visa on arrival is over, due to crackdown on companies providing the sponsorships.

Something to do with their not filing the required I think quarterly tax reports and I think the required semi-annual foreign-worker reports, although it’s not a work visa, so that may just be a conjecture I read.

Another maybe rumor maybe not is that having a business visa sponsored by one of these companies would leave a black mark on one's name and make future applications difficult.

So 90-day tourist e-Visa is  the only option for folks not looking to work in VN, just staying long-term.

With the associated time, travel, expense (including expense of visa for the turnaround country).

That’d be the first complication.

Then there’ve been reports of some people’s application for a new one being denied until immigration system shows the person left country. And one post said it might take five days for the system to show that, if it’s land crossing.

So one might be looking at week-plus abroad.

That’s the second complication.

Though being VN, there are also reports of people applying in-country and doing the Danang-Laos van runs, back the same day.

Third complication being most serious, which is being told when entering that this is your last time, and you’ll have to stay away for a year before reapplying. Some report said 9th time.

Though I think it was post-covid, so visas were maybe just 30 days. Though that'd mean just 9 months and buh-bye.

Fourth possible complication I haven’t heard of is the even more nightmarish scenario, being denied application because of too many consecutive tourist visas, meaning one would have like three days to sell all and move to another country, instead of three months with the third scenario above.

So if anybody has some experiences this year with any of this, I’m sure many of us would appreciate it being shared.

You've reposted virtually every rumor that's been spread since 2021, along with a few things that have been confirmed sometimes and sometimes not.

I highly recommend that you limit your search to posts since August 15th, 2023, since that's when the latest visa rules were implemented.

If you are willing to pay extra for the assistance of a reputable visa agent, you won't have any problem staying here for repetitive 3 month intervals with same-day border runs.

The only thing that's really going to complicate your border runs will be the location you choose.

If you are near HCMC or Vũng Tàu, it won't too difficult.

Huế to Laos is also a very simple border run.

Also southern Vietnam at or near Hà Tiên isn't difficult, including the round trip from  (TP) Phú Quốc (Island).

Hanoi is complicated and lengthy unless you fly to Laos or another SEA nation.

Da Nang is more difficult than Huế but not as challenging as Hội An.

Quy Nhơn, Nha Trang, Phan Thiết/Mũi Né, most central highlands cities and deep in the Mekong Delta are all problematic places, probably requiring more than one day to complete your visa run.

So you could get all kinds of feedback from many different people but the answer you need depends upon the place you intend to live.

Good luck!

i'd be north of saigon, so i was thinking moc bai.

thanks for the location assesment, didn't think it'd make that much of a difference.

and for the idea with agent. didn't think of that for an easy e-visa. perhaps things are best left to professionals when longterm stay is at stake.

muchas gracias,
