CRNM is ready. How long do I have to pick it up?

Hi,

I received an email that my residency card is ready. However, I am out of Brazil at the moment.

I applied on the 28th of February and my Protocol expired at the end of May. I haven't returned because of the printing delays.

How much time do I have to return/pickup before the card is discarded and would I be able to Board a flight with my expired protocol?

@LegalWingman

You can pick up your card upto a month, which is flexible. A relative can also be granted a power of attorney for accepting your card on your behalf.

@LegalWingman you are the only one that can pick it up. You don't  need an appt. They will keep it there for you.  I was out for 8 months and came back n got it.

@Nomad Mundo no they can't.  I tried to have my wife do it n got told no. I told them I will be out for 8 months. They said just grab it when you return

You could have been the sole exception. I had my friend pick-up my card at the downtown-RJ, PF office using POA. You might want to have a look at the following PF website link, which authorizes POA usage legally by PF itself.

https://www.gov.br/pf/pt-br/assuntos/im … requentes.

POA must be in original, physical form and be a *Procuração Pública*. The aforementioned POA must be issued by a notary public (Cartório) in your area and must expressly state the intended usage (CRNM Pick-up) and the location of the PF office to be used.

@Cserebogar.. I'm a law student here in Brazil, I processed all my documents on my own, which includes but not limited to CRNM, CTPS, Naturalization, RG, TSE, Military Enlistment, Passport and other requirements whatsoever. You might want to pause and go over things thoroughly.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your input!

@Nomad Mundo great input once again.

i reckon the issue of POA might be case to case. Several people have had different experiences. Another thing i have been told is that i can only do the POA in Brazil before leaving.

As i am already abroad can i use a local POA, authorise at the embassy and translate?

@LegalWingman.. I certainly concur with you totally LWM, that PF tendency is to be *My way or the highway.*.

There are in fact two ways that you can wrap-up your POA:

  • The Brazilian embassy in USA may issue you a POA, that you can then have apostilled at your local SOS office. The original POA can be sent by FedEx to a family member in Brazil, who must get it sworn translated for it to present it at the local PF office. That will legally obligate PF to accept the POA and deliver your card to the presenter.

You can get to know further details is available at the link mentioned below:

https://www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/consulado- … 20publicas

  • You can also get a POA online with the possibility of performing notarial acts online, you do not need to go to the Notary Office (Cartório) in person to request your power of attorney

You can get detailed infromation at below metioned link:

I hope the information above serves to clear-up any doubts you may have!1f60e.svg

I wrote a thread about POA and even included a sample document: https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.p … 56#5911226

Same situation. The card was finally printed but i am out of the country. My protocol expired last month.

My wife went to the PF in Santos to pick it up with power of attorney. They refused to accept it. Like all things in Brazil, following all the rules doesn't guarantee success.

In my case i did the process thru the consulate so i have the XI visa in my passport. You can enter with this, or if all else fails, you can enter as a tourist.

My lawyer told me they hold the cards for months. I plan on picking it up in September.

im sorry - I realize complaining does zero in Brasil but what a ridiculous system - I applied in February and my card is only arriving just now, after I've been out of the country for 3 weeks. I do not have a relative in the country - can I give POA to a friend to pick up the card?

Also, the site is telling me to schedule an appointment to pick up the card - I did not have to do thast last time - I just showed up. I really refuse to wait another month to pick up the card just because they have no timeslots available. It's just beyond absurd at this point.

Can anyone tell me 1) can I give POA to a friend 2) can they just show up without an appointment to grab the card? 3) how long will they hold the card for? I don't plan on coming back until October

Thanks, and apologies for the exasperated tone, but this process has been way worse than the initial granting of the visa.

Yes, you can give the POA  to a friend... just make sure that it has the proper stamps, wording, etc.  There is a thread on the particulars, if you have additional questions, ask there.

I don't personally know how long the PF will hold the card.  As far as appointments are concerned, you don't need one for the PF in Sao Paulo - but I can't speak for other offices.  It should tell you when you get the info to pick up the card.

@fowzee

Most PF offices in major cities don't require appointments for only card delivery, and you may certainly use the POA as already mentioned by MH.

* When picking up your card, have this form completed and turned in at the delivery desk.
