Post new topic

Hencar326

Im planning on moving in september to DR, i work for a company in the US and theyre havi g problems giving me the go ahead to work from DR, does anyone know of the requirements to do this?

There is entire process to follow if you are planning to move here and work here legally.

I would search the threads within this platform for residency, work permits, as there is a lot of information already posted.

Also, the DGM website for forms , process and cost.

So the American company will let you work remote?  How about will the DR let you live here and work remote?  Unless you qualify for residency, the answer is no.

And before anyone says just show up and.live.... this forum supports the law. It is still illegal to just show up, live and work here without residency.  As of now there is no law allowing digital nomads.

thank you for the reply…i was definitely not trying to do this illegally. I have a lawyer in Santo Domingo that has experience in getting residency for people moving to the country. my in-laws are dominican and will be getting my wife and the rest of us residency but i wanted to see if a work permit is needed in the meantime. i will ask him, thank you all

A critical note ;

The entire Residency/ Work permit application  process must start in your home country with the nearest DR Consulate to your home. Don't let any lawyer tell you differently. Goodluck and hope it goes well.

@CHRISTOPHER DAVID56 thanks!

Hencar if your in laws are Dominican then your wife has the right to citizenship.  THEN you start residency at home and you qualify via family reunification!  Simple actually. Simpler than many other routes.

@Hencar326  If you are a full time employee then technically you can work remotely outside of the US for an unlimited amount of time.  I originally was told by a boss at my job that it was no more than 6 months.  But after doing some research there are no US laws that specify a time limit.  So it boils down to what your company policy is.

CHRISTOPHER DAVID56

@taccj9903?again, that may be the laws/ perks and company policies/guidelines of your home country or company.

However, this not the law/guidelines of the DR for working here legally and even remotely for a period of time.
