Mobile phone plans in Belgium

Hello everyone,

Staying connected while living in Belgium remains a priority for expats, especially when choosing a mobile operator or to understand the local specificities of mobile plans.

Here some elements to consider:

How to choose your mobile operator in Belgium?

What documents are required to subscribe to a mobile plan in Belgium?

What criteria should you consider when choosing a plan matching your needs?

Are e-sim cards a suitable option for expats? What are the conditions?

What are your local tips for saving money on your mobile plan, especially for international calls (apps, operators, etc.) or mobile data?

Feel free to share your experiences and advice to choose your mobile plan as an expat in Belgium.

Thank you for your contribution.

There are several operators (Orange, Proximus, Base, etc.).

The best deal depends upon how much data you download (ie : do you watch videos?), whether you ask only for yourself (there can be discounts for family members if they all choose the same company), and whether you are using the phone you already have or you want a new one.

I would advise going to a large shopping center and inquiring in all the phone shops. Try telling the Base employee "Orange offered me this" and watch the reaction :).

You will need a proof of ID but no proof of residency to get a phone chip with a Belgium number.

Mobile Vikings is worth a shout as well.. Its essentially Proximus but better value for money..
