Realistic Processing Time for Family Reunion Visa Application

Post new topic

Hi all,

Writing to enquire on the realistic time for family reunion visa application in from SG. I am the applicant, a PR in SG( Indian Passport with Singapore PR). My husband is a blue card holder in Germany and resides in stuttgart. The website of the German embassy in SG says the processing time is 6-8 weeks, however i read a lot of queries here saying they have waited for more than 3 months for their visa processing. Also, do you know of anyone who had received the visa earlier that 6-8 weeks?

When I did the same, also in Singapore but many years ago, it took 3 months. The situation has considerably worsened since then, so expect (much) longer!

The application is processed by the local authorities (the infamous "Ausländerbehörde") of the town you intend to move to. These are typically understaffed, overworked and inefficient - and there is typically no way to enquire about the status or speed things up while they are processing. 6 - 8 weeks is the time the embassy needs to do their part, send it (via diplomatic mail) to the local authority and receive it back in the end.

You could be lucky, if you move to a rural town or a place in Eastern Germany (except Berlin area) with less foreigners. The offices there are often not so overworked and may be quicker.

To sum up: It will be long, but no-one will be able to tell you how long. The result will come whenever it comes!

thank you. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I just got the notification from the German Embassy in Singapore that my visa is ready for pickup! What a relief after this challenging wait.

Would be helpful for readers here to mention how long your process took.
