Moving with pets to Brazil

Good morning csilva1801 and welcome to the group,

I did a quick online search and found the following from the Agriculture ministry:

It doesn't look very up-to-date but might get you started until somebody with current experience gets back to you.

@csilva1801 I will send you a msg. Coming from the US? Someone else asked this try searching here in thia group.. it depends what city/state you are coming from. I can tell you that you need to time certain shots and get it translated all in a 10 day window from your time of travel. All airlines are diff and have diff rules. Big dogs won't  be cheap. I paid 1k for my 2 cats who flew in the cabin from Canada  with me. There are companies that will do it all for you but costlier. Just Google pet transport companies international.

Yeah we wanted to sail but can't find any company that we could sail with and take the dogs so looking like have to fly them with a pet currier service which is a lot more expensive than we thought it would be

I'm coming from UK so prices are crazy from here plus my dogs are reactive so that doesn't help

@csilva1801 Your situation may be different than others who have done this from the USA or Canada. Having said that I flew my 38lb.  Beagle Mix from Logan Airport in Boston to Jericoacoara in Northeastern Brazil. Hands down this was the MOST challenging thing I have ever done in my life. The previous comment about 10 days is absolutely correct as well as not being able to book your pet until the actual day of departure to ensure the airline can check the temperature of your destination if your dog is flying in cargo. Chances are there is no way to coordinate your flight with theirs, so they may need to stay in a pet hotel along the way. There is an abundance of documents that need to be signed by vets as well as health organizations and of course if your pets flight is delayed...well. The pet has to be weighed and measured for the crate and provided water and food attached to the crate. The paperwork is a monster, and I suggest being organized and have a folder etc.

The investment will be the easiest to handle.

@csilva1801 How big are your dogs?  We flew LATAM from US to Brazil with dog in cargo as excess bagage and I am flying back to the US in October from Brazil with dog in cargo.  Cost on Latam is $225.  Price is per weight of dog and crate combined. LATAM weight limit is 100 lbs for dog and kennel.  KLM is 75 kg.  You also have to have the right crate size or dog can be denied boarding.  We flew to Brazil with reactive dog and got meds from vet to try before and use during flight.  She did well.  We also bought a military crate for her which is made out of steel.  The military crates are heavy so this may not be an option for you.  You should be able to fly KLM via Amsterdam. Amsterdam to Sao Paulo is a direct flight.  KLM has a good reputation flying dogs. All the websites of airline companies have their regulations posted.  British airways flies direct to SP as well but I don't know anything about their policies.  Just to keep in mind.  The CDC has started some crazy rules on flying dogs into the US particuarly from high risk rabies countries like Brazil.  There is a 3 month waiver period that some airlines have received (eg KLM, Air France and LATAM). Some airlines just stopped transporting dogs all together and after waiver period ends, for most airlines around November I think it will be even harder to fly dogs in general.  The paperwork was not very complicated 4 years ago if you can find a vet familiar with the process.  Good luck!

@roddiesho Not completely true.  I have my ticket to fly back to MIA on OCT. 15 with dog in hold.  Her space is reserved and paid for. (LATAM) If you wait and there are too many dogs in cargo you can't fly.  Of course you can be denied boarding if it is too hot.   I know you had a rough time getting your dog here but we did not have that experience at all.

@KenAquarius  Thank you Ken!  It is a nerve wracking experience getting all the paperwork correct for the CDC and USDA but thankfully we found a vet in Sao Paulo who is very knowledgeable and works with these guidelines regularly so we are optimistic.
