Contractor abandoned job. What can I do?

Has anyone experience your house Contractor, abandoned the project having a contract? My contract with the contractor expired in July one year and he could not finish. I tried to do an extension on our contract but he refused to sign.

He would work when he pleases. My house has not been touched in two months. The only thing he did was come supervise the tile guy that has taken so far 2 1/2 months and still couldn’t finish. Unfortunately, he has been paid it in advance and has not finished.  The plumber got paid and has not provided me the final certificate so that I can forward to the engineer to apply for the certificate of occupancy. I was told that I did not need to have the details finished inside of the house as long as I had Windows And Doors and the house was completely done from the outside.  I may now have to find a license Plumber to certify and provide me the certificate needed to move on.  Electrician did not provide me the certificate as well he claims he’ll give it to us when we get the certificate of occupancy, if that’s the way to go I’m not sure.

Although I’m holding on to the last stage payment I need to know whether or not I can find someone else to finish the last details of the house? Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do? Please I need. advise as I need to finish my house.

Hello! I'm sorry this has happened to you. But the law is on your side. It is a criminal offense to steal money this way. You can go directly to the nearest State Police Station and a Marshal will go interview the person and if he doesn't find evidence against the facts he will arrest the person right then and there! Good luck!

I am a retired Canadian looking to escape winter. I just returned to Canada a few months ago from Africa where I built a 5 bedroom room three bathroom house

It cost to much in Africa for visas so I don't want to return. I can assist you to finish the remaining things you have to complete for a small cost if you can help me find a room to rent close to the house you want to work on. I plan to stay 6 months in poerto Rico

Thank you all for your assistance. I appreciate the feedback I consulted an attorney that’s helping me and we’ll see how far it gets. Also, I have someone already lined up that can finish the work. And his family I just didn’t want to bother them from the start.

Thanks again we’ll see where this takes me
