Did you know? From October 1, if you requested unlimited WP in Brussels, it is possible to do it now after 30 months of work.

Also other rules for work permit in Belgium have been simplified, especially changing jobs for limited WP - but this change is still not in news. They say it will be easier and no need to request new WP - but let's wait for official announcement

Is it only in Brussels or other regions also ?

gafarvictoir

I have read the new regulation but I would like to ask for clarification.

Does that apply for those working and living in Brussels region?

How about those who live in Brussels but work in Flanders?

Thanks

gafarvictoir

And how about those with family. It used to be shorter for them?

gannam

@gafarvictoir Only for Work permits requested in Brussels region...

gafarvictoir

@gannam thank you for your response.

Do you mean, only for employers located in Brussels region?

gafarvictoir

@gannam thank you for your response.

Do you mean, only for employers located in Brussels region?

My work permit was issued by Brussels city but my employer is based in the Flanders.

gannam

@gafarvictoir I am not sure myself, it is indeed very confusing.

Hey,

I have been working for more than 30 months on single permit.

My employer recently applied for renewal of the single permit for next three years.

Work permit has been approved and waiting for single permit.

Will I be automatically getting the unlimited single permit as per the new rule?

I stay in brussels and my first single permit was issued from brussels which was for three years.

Srizzy

it clearly states "Where time-limited work authorisations have been issued by another Region, the period is extended to four years" - based on this if your permit if issued in other regions other than BCR the period is extended for 4 years.

how to avail this? is it as simple as asking your commune for the same?

Srizzy

I recently had my Single permit renewed for another 3 years. Can I still apply for the unlimited work permit or have to wait till the current one expires and then do it?

gannam

@Srizzy Yes, sure you can apply

ashiseverywhere

@gafarvictoir I'm afraid you can't because

"These regulations apply to non-European nationals working for an employer located in the Brussels Capital Region."

gafarvictoir

@ashiseverywhere thank you.

That's unfortunate

gafarvictoir

How about the previous time-frame for those who live with their family with them?

It was shorter 3 years vs 4 years for all others.
