We lived closed to Heviz and went to Keszthely frequently, loads of restaurants (which is good), but many have no website (only facebook or alike) I will not even look, facebook, tiktok, instagram means a no go for me.

Still good restaurants around although some which we liked at the start (7/9 years ago) have detiorated (quite a bit, so we did not go)

We had 4 or 5 restaurants which we preferred and we went and people appreciated (tipping helps), but sad to say in the area at least 60% are a no go (too aggresive and focussed on innocent tourists)

In Budapest loads of restaurants (even Indian and Chinese, but especially with Indian I am disappointed (not the standard of eg London).

I repeat the above, if a restaurant has no normal website it is a no go.

There are lots of restaurants/Cafés that have awesome food which don't have websites. It doesn't mean that they have bad food.

A lot of advertising is by word of mouth. I know a few places that don't have websites. They might have at first but no need to have the added expense now. Why pay for something, when your establishment is full each night?

I'm going to a Budapest restaurant called Trofea this week. It's a chain restaurant with multiple branches around town.

It's an all you can eat and drink buffet in Hungarian style.  The only thing is the price - over 9K HUF pp (24 EUR) for a 2 hour afternoon slot to stuff your face.   The evening or weekend slot is 3h but cost 14K HUF pp (34 EUR).

Last time I went it cost about 6K HUF.  I'm not that impressed to go there and pay that much.

That kind of money could pay for quite a lot of food to eat at home and it might be even nicer.

Restaurants tend to come and go.

A good steady cook is the key.

My husband old childhood friend in Velence owns many different businesses there.

Building supplies, construction of stores and other large projects, a bar, a B&B, a small food market, IDK he keeps building his businesses.

The did have a restaurant which did not stay open for long.

We ate there a few times to show support of the business. We were living in Velence at the time and ate out just about every evening for 6 months. Actually got sick of going out all the time.

Well on day for lunch we went to his place. The cook was off that day and the guys wife was there alone.

She said the cook left fresh made food from the day before and she just had to heat it up.

I did not eat beef or pork then so opted for what she had fresh with poultry. Chicken gizzards.

Weird but why not, in Hungary do as the Hungarians do. Food arrived. husband and son dug in; I took one bite of my gizzards and had to drink some water; Took a second bite and spit it out; She did not see the meat was still raw!! I was offered something else to eat but was not longer willing to try anything there.

They soon closed that business;

Trofeca style places are usually good enough.

If you can eat allot it is worth it. Also good if you go in a group and everyone wants something different.

We invited our 4 neighbors to a bufffet style place near us that had beer and wine included.

They were always inviting us to a meal at their home so we wanted to take them out.

Disappointed that no one hardly ate a thing; They hardly drank either.Not sure why not, everything was OK.

Waste of money since they barely touched a thing .

Chicken gizzards eh...talk about cheap stuff.  Like bone soup.  Do me a favour!

It's just using the worst ingredients and dressing them up as something special.  It's just taking the mickey.

I cannot eat too much at Trofea.  And I don't drink either.  So I'm not much of a beneficiary to the buffet at Trofea.

I was in a restaurant last Saturday and we had a simple meat platter for two even if there were 4 of us.  It was just about OK.  Including drinks for four it came to 20K HUF which wasn't too bad at 5K HUF a head.

Sometimes a cheese and tomato sandwich will do rather than the fancy stuff.

Yes, I can not even look at chicken gizzards any more.

The problem with eating out is the food is not always as fresh and you think it is.

They use and reuse cooking oils and use poor quality oils.

I doubt they use virgin olive oil or coconut oil .

We had a Hungarian friend in NYC who worked as a sous chef at the Waldorf Astoria.

Now he could cook.Had us over for dinner a few times.

Funny story, when my husband and his friends first got to NY in 1971 they helped with a remodel of the Rainbow Room.

He was working as a machinist full time but made some extra cash doing this over night job.

They restaurant had the floor torn out and walls done, all in one long night.

A Hungarian guy was the manager of the place and hired     a bunch of long haired Hungarians to hlpe with the clean up.

About 6 guys were left to finish up the work, they had free access to all the food left over in the fridge.

Pigged out on all sorts of treats.

On Maui, my husband had 2 different part time jobs in restaurants. On was in the Hilton in a cleaning crew. Always had fresh sushi etc; in the fridge, you name it they would fire up the stove and cook themselves a nice snack before going home. The other job was closer to our home, a Mexican place that was owned and operated by a Arab man and his American wife. Sometimes he would bring home a dinner that we shared. Came in handy as we were young parents with a small income. Great times.

I worked for a couple of years at a popular family style place near the movie studios in Toluca Lake , Ca;

Nice posh part of town.

Bobs Big Boy, perfect good paying job for an 18 year old like I was.

Their food might of been considered somewhat fast food but it actually was all freshly made daily.The meat was mixed from scratch and the salads were always super fresh. I remember when I was 20 and returned to work there for about 5 months before going to Maui.

I was pregnant but still pulled my full shift with all the lifting and running involved in the job.

The cooks were all so nice with me. Every time I had a break someone was bringing me     a huge snack or a huge glass of milk. I usually just ordered a big salad to eat on my break; With so much running around at my job I hated to over eat.

My salads always were made with 3 times the  meats and cheeses that were standard. I even had a couple of times where 2 cooks would argue as to who was going to make my lunch that day.

IDK? was not that personal with anyone there but it just shows how kind people can be in the right environment. Hard to find a happy place to work like that where everyone gets on.

Funny thing was with all that fresh food made with love and care, I always stopped by Taco Bell on my way home instead of taking advantage of my workplace for a meal.

I joke that my son is made out of Tacos.

I'm still giggling like a silly schoolboy at the thought of a thread about restaurants on the Hungry forum.

I'll get my coat (and a letter A).

I'm lost as well, must be missing the joke.

I will not go to all of your eat restaurants, I do not like them conceptually (and I do not eat too much)

The advantage is it's one fixed price including nearly all booze.

When there are 6 people and a few of them want to get smashed then it's not bad value at just under 10K a person.

I don't eat that much either but I try small amounts of everything.

I get what your saying but we can not always stay on regular topics like museums, legal issues with immigration etc.

I will just take my books and leave it to that!

Yes, these places are great if people drink a few rounds with their meals.

One of our fave buffets in Vegas is called the M casino;

Far up on the strip away from the busy area so they give you allot for your trouble of driving over there.

They have really good food, a huge variety for international foods with chefs that will cook some items to order. Wine, beer, cider come with the meal; Espresso is served with brandy post meal with a huge amount of fresh deserts, different ice creams, all served in proper dish wear with a window view of the hotel grounds, mountains and swimming pool area;

Used to be about $25; a head for lunch and $35 for dinner; Seafood Sunday was $75; a person but it was fantastic.

The lunch buffet at Bellagio was not huge but super good. $50; a head for lunch without any alcohol included.

Worth every penny though.

We usually went to the Palms because it was my husband fave place to gamble. he always got credit for free buffets there. Guess he played too much, we even took family to eat on his credits for free.

They were not bad either, Sunday brunch was nice there;

.

I know I can no longer justify paying for a buffet meal because I can not eat that much in one sitting.

My 400 lbs cousin took me to a nice lunch buffet at The Golden Nugget downtown; Small but very well done menu.

He also took me to The Hard Rock for lunch and some Black and Tan beer; Nice too.

IDK, people are always trying to feed me!
