Good and helpful post, OceanBeach92107.
The article from vietnamnews.vn states that "...from November 11, the e-visa website thithucdientu.gov.vn will be operating alongside the current evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn...".
This appears to conflict with Vietnam immigration's xuatnhapcanh.vn page, which now (Nov.10th) contains a banner stating...
"VIETNAM IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT - NOTICE
From 08:00 on 11/11/2024 (GMT+7), the Vietnam Electronic Visa Portal will operate on two new domains: https://thithucdientu.gov.vn and https://evisa.gov.vn. Please visit these new addresses to submit your application and check the results. Thank you./."
As of tomorrow, new applicants are to apply through the new portal, here.
Members are encouraged to review the updated application and to post their impressions, criticisms, or questions. I've given the application a look, and have a couple of observations to pass on.
From the portals front page, to convert from Vietnamese click "Ngôn ngữ" at top right and select "English".
After clicking, "Apply now", we're presented with a confirmation page panel. On that confirmation panel we see...
#5. Visa is issued for foreigners who are currently abroad, wishing to enter into Viet Nam (not to foreigners who are currently temporary resident in Viet Nam).
There was quite a bit of discussion regarding this. Nice to see that immigration has chosen a less ambiguous phrasing.
#7. Foreigners described in Clauses 1, 2, 3 and 4, Article 8 of the Law on foreigners' entry into, exit from, transit through and residence in Viet Nam, shall not apply in person for e-Visa. They must send visa applications via the inviting or sponsoring agencies/organizations to the competent agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Scroll to the bottom, and select both "Confirm compliance with Vietnamese laws upon entry", and, "Confirmation of reading carefully instructions and having completed application", then select "Next". This will bring you to the eVisa application.
NOTE: I suggest that applicants open two browser windows prior to starting their application, starting here. The reason I suggest this is because if you select any of the pages found in the header of the application page (i.e. Home, e-Visa, Search, Instruction, FAQs, Contact us, language), when you try to go back one page to your application, you are booted out and must go through the confirmation/acceptance panel and reenter the application page. Any data you've entered will have been lost, and you must start your application again. Immigration, for some reason, has disabled a right-click, open in new window on the application. Use the second browser window to select any header titles you might wish to view (eg. instructions, faqs).
As with the current application, all fields marked with an asterisk ( * ) are mandatory.
In the section titled,
1. PERSONAL INFORMATION First name (Middle and given name)...
Note that the middle name (when one exists) must appear first, followed by the applicant's given/first name.
2. REQUESTED INFORMATION To issue e-Visa for Single-entry Multiple-entry
Select either single, or multiple entry and enter your intended dates. If your intended dates extend beyond the 90 day eVisa maximum validity, the system will alert you. Adjust your dates to comply.
4. CONTACT INFORMATION Permanent residential address (declare in case the domestic contact address is different from the current residence)
I suggest an applicant not use a Vietnam address in either the permanent residential or the contact address, regardless of the amount of time you have been in Vietnam. Use the same address in both fields, preferably an address in your home country. People in Vietnam under a tourism eVisa will not be recognized by immigration as having "permanent residency" in Vietnam.
6. INFORMATION ABOUT THE TRIP
The "Intended date of entry" should be the same as the "Grant e-Visa valid from" date input by the applicant in section 2 of the application. There is no penalty for arriving after the "valid from" date. Entry prior to that date is not permitted.
For the "Intended length of stay in Viet Nam", use a date clculator, such as the one found here. When using a date calculator, you must select the "Include end date in calculation (1 day is added)". This is how immigration counts the dates. This will avoid denial/amendment delays.
The "Agency/Organization/Individual that the applicant plans to contact when enter into Viet Nam?", when applying for a tourist eVisa, must be answered as "No". This field does not apply to tourism applications, and is for people who will be sponsored to enter Vietnam (e.g. by an employer, charity org., diplomatic mission, etc).
Click the declaration of truthfulness box, and select next to proceed to the review page of the application.
I encourage all expat.com members to review the new application portal. Your thoughts on it would be very much appreciated.
