Hi, I'm Hedley. I'm planning to move to brazil soon, rio to be exact. Been on vacation with my husband a few times in this beautiful city. Unfortunately divorced him and now I'm looking for a change of scenery. If anyone has any advice on which neighborhood is best to rent a place, I would love to hear it.Hi, I'm Hedley. @Hadley Bourne Welcome to EXPAT.COM. My 2nd mother is from Niteroi. (across the water from Rio), so I spent my younger years hanging out in Rio. I now live in a small village of 2,500 in Northeastern Brazil in the state of CEARA.

Brazil is a very, very large country and most people think of Rio, just like most people think of New York when you mention the USA. I would only advise you that the smaller cities may provide you with a more comfortable life.

Welcome to the forum Hedley.

There are many members who live in Rio.  I would recommend starting a message conversation with one of them to get their feedback.  Off the top of my head, Hernameisrio is one such member.

Where to live in Rio?  This question is tricky and akin to asking a kid in a candy shop to choose one.

A simple google search returns the following:

https://www.expatarrivals.com/americas/ … buildings.

However, the visitor’s perspective is typically very different from someone who lives there.

The general recommendation is for anyone moving to a big city is to move somewhere short term first and then find a place where you will feel the most comfortable and move there more long term.

BTW, Brazil is big and there are many members who live elsewhere who would be glad to share their pros and cons of their locations – if you are interested.

Again welcome to the forum and all the best for the future.
