We have recently bought a home in a small village in Bulgaria. The house once locked up is secure. At the moment there is nothing in the house that I would think is worth taking. I'm am hoping to return to the home 2-4 times a year. Is security a big concern? And if so what's the best deterrent. Many thanks.

Good neighbours is a goid start.

Where I live there is a security company who drive around at nighttime, we pay 10 levs a month.

The guys are built like boxers so I wouldn't want to mess with them.

Most in the village use them and I do mean the Bulgarians as well.

That's very interesting, and thank you for the reply. Would it be possible to let me know the company name please just incase they operate in my village. Many thanks.

Delta is the name of the company around this area, Polski Trambesh between Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo.

Your neighbours and mayor will know if there is one operating in your area.

I wouldn't be too sure about "once locked up is secure" - and you'd be surprised at what thieves here will steal: new windows, sanitary fittings, furniture, white goods, even the electricity cables inside the walls are fair game...

Not all security companies are trustworthy, either - so do your homework..

Oh dear yes it's definitely a worry at the moment. I have seen a local company but not too sure how reliable they are. I've thought about CCTV and burglar alarms but how effective these will be I'm not sure. Even if I watched something on CCTV there's not much I could do from the UK. Hopefully making the move full-time in approx 5 years. At the moment it will just be a holiday home.

Make sure you get it well insured.  I've been with Intasure for years and have been very happy with the service - when our unoccupied village house was burgled they were very efficient and even pointed out that I could claim for a number of extra expenses that I'd omitted.

Wow that's brilliant thank you for that information I will definitely check them out.
