Dental tourism in Vietnam...

Hi, I’m an expat living in Vietnam and who’s working at a dental clinic in Ho Chi Minh.

As dental tourism has become more active in Vietnam recently, many people have been making inquiries, so I am sharing some information.

I am American living in Vietnam and I love Vietnam, but bunch of foreigner patients are having side effects during the dental tourism process. (On the other hand, not all international clinics guarantee perfect treatment.)

Most local dental clinics provide good treatment, but there are some problems with focusing on attracting patients with low prices and short-term treatments.

For example, rushing treatment due to the environment of foreigner patients who have to visit for a short period of time, taking advantage of the lack of a complaint method afterward and not considering problems that may occur after 1-2 years, Concentrating on aesthetic treatment leading to problematic treatment with excessive teeth stripping and lack of explanation of the cause of the problem, lack of explanation of possible future problems, etc…

Too many problems arise, and many patients who experience side effects visit my clinic.

I think this kind of tourism culture needs to be improved.

Teeth are not meant to be used for only 1-2 years, and dental treatment must be done gradually from small steps to large steps. However, simply taking advantage of the low price compared to Europe/America and the fixed return schedule of foreigners to rush treatment is problematic.

Orthodontic treatment is obviously not suitable for those who do tourism, so there are few orthodontic side effects, but I personally think that the number of other side effects is overwhelmingly higher in Vietnam than in other countries.

It’s just my personal opinion that full mouth implants such as All-on-4 should be treated very carefully.

Just last week, a patient who had an unreasonable All-on-4 implant at a local clinic had their alveolar bone loss and underwent reconstruction surgery at our clinic.

I highly recommend you to get treatments at a clinic that has specialists with a proper certificates. The most important thing for getting dental job done is a beginning with a proper plan and finishing with a long lasting treatment.

Thanks for reading such a long personal concerns !
