Disappointing Trip to Lander's Today

Post new topic

Enzyte Bob

Lander's in Arcovia finally opened after a fire in February. After the fire I shopped at Lander's BGC. It is on two floors and the aisle layouts were very confusing.

So I started shopping at S&R BGC and now since Lander's Arcovia reopened, I shopped there today. Many of my favorite items were not there anymore.

Gold Seal Tuna in Oil,   Kraft Mayo with Olive Oil,  Edan Cheddar Cheese,  Glad Tie String Kitchen Garbage Bags,   Spam 25% Less Sodium,  Hormel Chili With Beans,  V8 Vegetable Juice,   Lucky Me Pancit Noodles & Chicken Noodles.

Also had to wait 10 minutes in the senior line to order a salad, then another 25 minutes for them to make the salad.

Upon leaving we were given an envelope for tips.

Tips????  I would pull a Jed Clampett on that one  "Plant your corn early this year"

lol. The Beverly Hillbillies was a big hit import from CBS in the UK during the 60’s . Can’t remember whether the BBC or ITV networks purchased the series.

Fond memories. Buddy Ebsen I recall went on to star in the Barnaby Jones mystery movie series

Knew Buddy originally as John Russell, Davy Crockett's sidekick in the 1950's.

Gold Seas Tuna in Oil, Gold Seas Tuna in Springwater: both are missing from the shelves of all groceries for months now - S&R Fairview, Landers Fairview, SM, Robinsons, etc. The one with chili is still available though. I buy it. I don't like it.

Hormel Chili with Beans: available at S&R the last time we went there.

Lucky Me noodles: available at both S&R and Landers.

Margherita pizza is listed in Landers' menu. But it's never available. Fish and chips is good. Angus beef Salisbury steak is tasty but serving size is too small. Often, I feel the urge to correct people's pronunciation of "minestrone," but I stop myself so as not to offend anyone.

Bob, were the envelopes handed out to you by the Landers cashier? Last Christmas, a band that was performing near the entrance was raising funds for a charitable organization, handed us envelopes on our way out. The envelopes were not for tips but for donations.

Officially, there are allegedly 2 pronunciations according to the online American Heritage Dictionary:

/mĭn″ĭ-strō′nē, -strōn′/

So it supposedly can be either "minis STRO nee" or "minis STRONE".

But I think you know and I know that only the former /mĭn″ĭ-strō′nē is correct, the latter ending in STRONE being an Americanized bastradization of the Italian word.

Minis STRO nee it is.

The last two trips for groceries was at Landers, I thought by the second trip some of the stuff would be restocked.

I don't like the Gold Seas Tuna with Chili either so I don't buy it. Again Hormel Chili with or without beans was not available. So I tried the Armour No Bean Chili, it was awful. When the Hormel Chili with beans was available, my wife would add ground beef, onions & crushed Sky Flake Crackers.

This time I was able to buy: Glad Draw String Kitchen Bags, Edam Cheddar Cheese, Spam 25% less sodium and Kraft Mayo with Olive Oil. Over years you get to know what products disappear from time to time so I buy extra when available.

I found the Chili on Shopee, but with a 50% markup so I took a pass.

You're correct it was the band passing the envelopes out. It was confusing because they were standing near the employee who checks out the grocery receipt.

One thing at Landers I would recommend is "Bakers Delight", Butter Cheese Loaf Bread, it's more expensive but I like it, I buy 5 loaves and put 4 of them in the freezer.

People who were ordering it at the counter pronounced it as "mine" (like the "mine" in coal mine) - strown. Most are not familiar with it, and order it out of curiosity, only find out it's a tomato-based sour pasta soup, which they would never order again.

Ocean Naturals Albacore Solid White Tuna . . . GONE.

Essentia water . . . GONE.

One thing about Landers and S&R is if you find something you really like buy as much as you can. When supply runs out they may never get it again. The next bulk deal will be something totally different.
