Retirement Visa and Hubby Question

Post new topic

Hi All,

We have fallen in love with a property in the Dobrich Region North East Bulgaria subject to viewing, my wife is retired so I would imagine would qualify for the D Visa but as I still have another 8 years to go not sure what visa I would need, we are both British Nationals and due to my job as a Corrosion Engineer have lived all over the world but we have just sold our home in West Wales and was going to move onto our Narrowboat but we have been looking at Bulgaria for a while but finding this property has made us want to fast forward and fingers crossed buy this property and it's ideal as we are both country people not city people, any help would be great.

Cheers

Geoff and Denise West Wales(for now)

Hi Geoff! If Denise is official retirement age and gets her OAP,  then she can apply for a retirement D visa, then once she has residency apply for family reunion for you to get your residency.

If she has a work pension but isn't official retirement age yet she can still apply as long as her work pension is more than the Bulgarian minimum wage of 464 GBP per month - the retirement visa is based on getting a pension, not on age. It also requires proof of savings of at least 6 months worth of the minimum wage. Which means if you have a work pension of at least that much, you could also apply in your own right as a retired person.

What part of Dobrich region is the house you're interested in? Our house is near General Toshevo. We both love the area. I'm Australian, and it feels like home to me!

Yeah, that part of BG is deffo reminiscent of the Never-Never.....and there's always a swagman or two with his eye on foreign-owned properties! 😎

janemulberry

LOL! Our village seems to be deficient in swagmen! And traditionally swaggies tended to have their focus on sheep rustling, not burglary!  Lucky for us, we don't have any sheep.

It's more the undulating wide fields of grain and sunflowers, feels very like the Western Slopes and Plains of NSW. Toshevo, though very different, has the feel of an Aussie country town of the same size.  Sadly, the drought is also a less wanted feature that feels like home.

@janemulberry

"Sheep"? Strewth, Sheila - you mean jumbucks! 😂

I see you speak fluent Strine. Onya, mate!

JimJ

You better believe it - I'm heavily into linguistics!  Back in the day, I devoured "Afferbeck Lauder" 's "Let Stalk Strine" and "Nose Tone Unturned", followed by his Pommy piss-takers "Fraffly Well Spoken" and "Fraffly Suite" (the former two were the best by far 😎) - not to forget the magnificent "Adventures of Barry Mackenzie", in the days before Mr Humphries started wearing frocks....🤣

And let's not forget John O'Grady/Nino Cullota's "Gone Troppo" et al!

I will need to look out for his Pommy books, as somehow I missed those! But I didn't watch any of the Bazza films, as they really didn't work so well with my somewhat prissy sense of humour.

@janemulberry

The films were pretty poor - the comic strips in Private Eye, subsequently collected into two(?) print volumes, were MUCH better...

JimJ

Having an idle moment, I just visited a few on-line bookshops and was amazed to discover that my original copy of the collected Barry MacKenzie strips from Private Eye is now worth over £1,000! Fair bonzer, eh? 😂

Bonza beauty, mate!
