Considering Panama

opietaylor7

Hello everyone,

I am in my mid 70's and made an initial trip - exploratory visit last month to Panama City. I am seeking to leave the USA due to the division and the many issues that go unresolved and seem to increase every day. Bird flu: eggs = $6.89 a dozen. I feel affected mentally by all the issues here and seeking a different way of life. Feels like constant hate and anger. Not my country anymore.   I lived in Spain as a foreign exchange student in my younger years, so feel I can regain my Spanish though Castilian. I like  the location of Panama, US dollar, Spanish. . My first hurdle will be affording health insurance at my age- private insurance. I am returning in June on a tour to see other cities, obtain contacts. I was not initially turned off with Panama City even with the trash, honking of horns and no road signs. Many countries even in Europe are similar.  (Sometimes the tall buildings in Panama City can serve as a compass when you get lost on the streets!) I have read many angry, derogatory reviews of Panama and would like to read more pros and cons but with a more balanced and tactful approach as I see that as a more valid review. No country is a Utopia. Anyone live in the high rises? Noise from neighbors due to thin walls?    Yes high rises can be more expensive but my home here requires maintenance and looking for less of that. The fact Panama has drinkable tap water is a plus as opposed to many countries I have researched. For me that is a plus for health.  And flushable toilets - lol. Yes we all have our priorities.  Nearby medical is another concern whereas I read other cities do not have hospitals with overall care/ all types of treatment. Panama City has its heat a negative but also access to better health care so weighing out the pros and cons.  Anyone that can add some pros and cons, deal breakers or the most attractive aspects that kept you in Panama, would be appreciated. What makes it worthwhile?  What would make you consider leaving?. Thanks!
