English Teacher with wife - visa questions?

Post new topic

dghjarrett

Hi all,

I am an English teacher (British National) currently applying for jobs in Vietnam. I am married to an Italian citizen and I wanted to ask what the VISA rules are for her. If I applied for a job and received an offer of work, I presume she would be allowed to the neter the country and live with me as a dependent?

Does this mean she can also look and apply for work on a dependent VISA or not?? If not, how easy is it for her to change her VISA in-country?

Thanks for your help,

Daniel Jarrett

More than likely if you got a job you'd get a work permit through your new job, you'd both get a temporary residency card to go with it. That does not entitle her to work. In a nutshell that's it.
However if she applied for and got a job here, her employer should in theory get a work permit for her independently of your status.

Hi, my husband (irish) got a job in HCMC and I got a visa through his job which entitles me to live here (I am spanish). As laidbackfree says, your wife finds a job here, it should be the employer who gets the working visa for your wife.

This place is great. Good luck!

ah ok. So if she found a job, would she have to change her VISA in country or would she have to go out of country to do that??

Should all be able to take place in country. Make sure you both have all your documents notarised in your home countries!

Btw what does she intend to do? Teach or something else?
