Hi all,
is it difficult for expats to open a bank account in Namibia ?
Which documents are required to open a bank account in Namibia ?
How long does it take to open it ?
Is there any restriction for expats regarding the services (loans for instance) ?
Which bank would you recommend ?
Thanks in advance for your participation,
Julien
hi there
opening a bank account can not be that difficult as long as you have your passport and ID.
The best bank is Nedbank Namibia they work well .
Welcome to Expat.com Lazarus2011 and thanks for your help.

Hello,
Opening an account for an expatriate is not difficult.
You will need a valid work visa or work permit. Banks will not
open an account for tourists.
So you need:
1. Your passport (with visa)
2. At least N$100
Everyone has a preference and mine is FNB particularly the John Meinert Branch. However, Nedbank are fine too.
All the very best,
Zenani
Is it possible for a tourist to open an account, and if possible what paperwork would be needed?
Also, what would be the interest rate for having an account open in the bank that you guys recomend to me?
Additionally, am I able to deposit/transfer money into the account from the Uk?

Hello and welcome !
it will depend on the bank I believe!
This bank allows non resident to open a bank account : https://www.bankbic.na/start/personal/a … ocument%20(ID%2F%20Passport,%2C00%20for%20Non%2DResidents.
But you have to contact different banks to enquire.

short answer: No. For Tourists it is *not* possible to open a bank account (anywhere, for bank accounts you must be a resident)
