HI Luciano,

All the cities in Australia are now diverse so I think you would feel happy in all of them. I'd say the most popular are Sydney and Melbourne, but I also like Adelaide and Brisbane which are more compact but still cosmopolitan. In fact Adelaide has a large Italian community.

Construction and mining are driving the economy here and there are plenty of jobs available in those industries for skilled and semi skilled workers. Queensland and Western Australia are the two states where most of the recruiting is happening right now. There is a shortage of skilled workers in mining because mostly it means working and living in outback areas where you will certainly get your real Australian experience!

In our case, our choice of city was driven by the job. So it really depends on your work experience and qualifications and what type of work you seek. There is a list of skill shortages available on the government website (dept of immigration) if you have one of these skills you shouldn't have much trouble getting a job here.

you can read about some of my real Australian experiences here flippingcrikey.com/category/adventure/

hi flippingcrikey,

can you tell me, wich region is best (for getting a job) for a guy that works in IT?
I'm in Portugal, but i would like to move to Australia ou New Zealand.
Thanks

Oz Factor

Australia's economy is in far better shape than New Zealand's at the moment. Queensland and WA have plenty of mining and infrastructure projects coming up. Last week the courier mail newspaper had a full insert paper on jobs in Queensland. A quick search here should tell you where the IT jobs are but I suspect they are in the booming states.  http://www.careerone.com.au/?from=ninbar  Good luck with the search.

By the way, there have been changes in the visa system recently. You can find out about them here http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general- … s-new.htm,  but first I would look up which visa you intend to apply for.http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/
