Australian living in Colombia

Post new topic

Hello all,

After living in a few other Spanish speaking countries, I've found myself in Colombia. Its not without its challenges, but I've been pleasantly surprised to find that its not as bad as everyone makes out.

I found myself here in the forum by mistake the other day when trying to find out a little information about some loneliness I've been feeling lately. Its nice to know others have similar feelings and experiences, and that my strategies (going out alone, doing things I like regardless of whether or not I have company) are ones that others have tried.

Cheers,
Rainy.

Hi Jon and Julien,

Thanks to both of you for your well wishes. I've actually been here just over a year, but have recently began to realise that my social group isn't really what I'm after in terms of friends. This is about the only thing that makes me question my choice about being an expat: the way its sometimes difficult to find my kind of folks.

However, thanks so much for your ideas. I speak Spanish pretty well and have been looking a lot at different clubs and groups that fit my interest, so hopefully things will be a bit more sociable pretty soon. Its good to hear that a lot of other people's ideas about how to make friends are similar to my own. In the past I haven't had trouble finding friends pretty quickly, so this is new to me.

Cheers,
Rainy
