I moved to Istanbul recently, but have been living in Turkey for the past 6 months. Finding the culture change a little overwhelming. Am usually very confident and friendly, but I am worrying about travelling alone here for the first time.
Have been in the city for almost a month, but tend to find that i've spend majority of my time inside and I dont want to miss out of the experiences here.
My fiance works alot of hours, so I find myself alone alot. Thrown myself into improving my Turkish and am slowly improving.

Am keen to get to know people around me! I'm living in Bağcılar.
If anybody is nearby then i'm always keen to meet new people and explore my new surrondings more! L x.

Hi Laura!

Good to hear from you :-) I can imagine that it's all pretty overwhelming!! Is your fiance British too? Where did you live in Turkey before moving to Istanbul? My husband moved to Istanbul today and me and our little daughter won't move till just after Christmas, but very keen to catch up in due time! Good work on posting your message - I've made some nice contacts so far and very keen to meet up with all of those by the time I get there. Istanbul is an amazing city and I agree that it's far easier to settle when you get to know some people to explore the city and the new life with :-) All the best in the next couple of months and hope to catch ya in the new year!

Hi Leroglu,

There is nothing to worry and get overwhelmed about Istanbul, in fact you'll love the day by day. Of course it is not going to be so easy to get used to live in a diffirent country especially if you are in a Metropolitan city like Istanbul.  I"d suggest you to start exploring the city with the touristic places then the town centers in day time first. As you gain confidance there  are a lot to find out to discover in Istanbul..

Don't  lock yourself in , especially in Bagcılar, get out and start  feeling the taste of Istanbul.

Good luck
