Hi,

passing a job interview in the Netherlands can be a stressful moment, especially you are not familiar with the cultural and professional codes of the country.

How to successfully pass a job interview in the Netherlands ?

What happens during the interview ?

What are the do's and don'ts during a job interview in the Netherlands : what to say or not, what to wear, how to behave ?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience with us !

I was in some job interviews during 2007-2008, the last highest employment period in the Netherlands before the EU finance crisis. They make a request for any foreign language and they do not mention they need a good knowledge of Dutch language. That's really to make some to waste the time and they say "sorry we need someone with Dutch"...it seems they expect everyone who speaks 2, 3 more languages also speaks Dutch...that's not a commercial or well known language. Sorry.

Totally agree with the language problem! Also you should check the laws and regulations that apply to your country before aapplying for a job in the Netherlands because they are being changed all the time and many employers don't know the exact laws, so even if you attend an interview and be accepted for the job, they can tell you in the last second: "Sorry, but you need a working permit and we don't want to make that for you, because it is very complicated" I've heard that many times and it is not nice!

Good luck :)

Also keep in mind that Dutch people are very friendly and most of the times informal, so one shouldn't stress too much before an interview! :)

Thanks for your help Petra Rueva ;)
