In deciding to go to KSA I spent much time reading about the experiences if other people. Their experiences helped me to feel more comfortable. In that vein, I am curious as to YOUR experience of walking off the plane to KSA. I cannot really find much information regarding this.

For example:
What city did you land in?
When did you land (morning, afternoon, evening)?
Are you here for a job or are you a trailing spouse?
Did the company send someone to pick you up?
Did you go straight to the accommodations or to work?
When did you have your in KSA medical exam?
Did you get an advance on your paycheck?

Welcome to the kingdom, hope you get some response soon.

Although it's long time back, let me be the first to respond :)

What city did you land in?
Riyadh

When did you land (morning, afternoon, evening)?
8PM :)
I didn't like the long slow queue on the immagration. There is (still) a big room of improvement in the arrangements, counters and staff behavior.

Are you here for a job or are you a trailing spouse?
Job.

Did the company send someone to pick you up?
A sort of miscommunication happened and no one could come to pick me up. Then one nice limousine driver offered me his cell. I made a call and the employer sent a car within 45 minutes.

Did you go straight to the accommodations or to work?
Accomodation. Then next morning work.

When did you have your in KSA medical exam?
After couple of days from arrival.

Did you get an advance on your paycheck?
Was offered but I brought enough cash with me. I politely turned down the offer.

be prepared to stand in a long line with people pushing they way infront of you. When you get to the window they will close it and go to lunch or coffee break. when they come back they will decide that there is something wrong with your visa and make you wait another 2 hours .

Lol! you put it in a blunt way though.

thanks gracielou.

i came in via bahrain for the 1st time and it took me longer to find my hotel than it did to get from the airport to al khobar security looked in the boot of the car and sent me on my way don't know why i'm so special but i have had no problems with getting into saudi at any time lol

just telling it as it was for me . seems i touched a nevre. I was always of believe that an open forum was where people of free spirit could talk openly without being told to leave the country if you do not like.
If being bought off by good money is the answer to how you deal with things then more power to you.

have a nice day i hope pay day is a wonderful day for you.

not knocking you gracielou :D

just thought i would nudge about the topic

but your right there does seem to be a lot of people that have come here and are finding it a bit harder than they maybe thought it was going to be. I like you am finding it a good friendly place to be things do take time to happen but i am finding if you take the time and find out how they work and work WITH them it's really quite smooth. here's looking forward to hearing more positive reports from others here on their initiation into Saudi life.

Hi
I'm sure gracielou did not mean to be rude, I think she was just triggered after reading many posts complaining about the same thing, I agree with gracielou, I see many people post questions on this forum before they accept the offer, I see people telling them how things are hard here for westerns and how different is the culture here, but they still accept the offer and come (each for his own reasons), then they start to criticize everything, personally I think criticizing something of the commonly accepted by all humans (like respecting order),  in a positive way and start doing something about it, is part of the social responsibility, but just complaining about things which are different from Europe, has no point.
Others would try more, in openness they would try to change the culture, and this is real weird!! It’s like visiting a friend and change his house decoration because you don’t like it while visiting him for an hour!
