Hi to all of you.
I've been reading people's blogs and discussions in this forum as I'm interested in moving to Norway some day.
I'd like to know whether speaking Norwegian is required for health professionals or English (at least for the beginning) is enough.
Moreover, what happens with children who do not speak the language? Which schools do they attend? Should they learn Norwegian before moving there?

I would be grateful if someone could help.

Thanks! :)

Health proffessionals would have to know Norwegian, although most Norwegians can speak english, I am sure that most would be more comfortable using their own language when it comes to medical appointments.

Children would not have to learn Norwegian before moving here, they could go to an international school, or get extra help with the language in the state school system. Ofcourse if you know you are moving here it wont hurt to learn a bit of the language before you move.

Thanx for your help! :)

Hi My name is Stephanie and I have a few questions about becoming a midwife in Norway. How easy is it to transfer your midwifery license from the US to Norway? Would it be easier to go to school once I am in Norway? What about transferring an RN license? I have read several places on different blog sites about ladies who tried to transfer their midwifery license to Norway from the US but were denied their Norway license, they had a masters degree and 12 years of experience. How common is this? I am not a midwife yet but am planning on going to school soon and just don't want all my efforts to be in vain. Anyone have suggestions?

there's been a LOT of press lately about how difficult it is to transfer nurse licenses from the USA to Norway (so I'd guess it's similar with midwife licenses). It's apparently quite difficult and not in tune with the need for nurses in the country.

As for going to school, I believe you have to pass Norwegian tests (possibly the infamous Bergen test) if you want to go to school here for such specialization.
