Coming for a pre-move visit and need advice

Hello All,

We are hopefully coming down to Ecuador in the middle of January 2012 for about 2 weeks.

What we are hoping to get from this post is a short list (whatever that is - 10, 20, 30 items) of all the things we need to checkout and understand about retiring in Ecuador as a legal resident.

Some of the items we already know a little about include visa, medical insurance etc. but we would love to hear more on these as well as your ideas for other things we need to do, people we need to talk to, places we need to see.

We plan to buy a place to live in eventually but have no idea where to start.

Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bruce and Cheryn

Hello Again,

Here is our itinerary so far. If you have any comments or suggestions of things we need to do and see, please feel free to add them. If there is anything we can't do (such as fly from Cuenca to Salinas) then please point them out.

Thanks
Cheryn and Bruce

Tuesday, January 17, 2012, fly from Edmonton to Quito
Wednesday, 18, look around Quito
Thursday, 19, one-day return bus trip to Cotacachi
Friday, 20, fly to Cuenca and look around
Saturday, 21, look around Cuenca
Sunday, 22, fly to Salinas and look around
Monday, 23, look around Salinas
Tuesday, 24, catch bus to Manta and look around
Wednesday, 25, look around Manta, and fly to Quito
Thursday, 26, fly from Quito back to Edmonton

In all places we wish to look primarily at real estate but also some of the major shopping areas and tourist traps. We will also need suitable accommodation while we are in Ecuador. We are hoping to meet one or more expats in each place.

Thanks again
Cheryn and Bruce

We are looking to do a somewhat similar trip to Ecuador from our home in Jacksonville, FL in March with the idea of moving later in the year. We would be very interested in your responses to this email. Because we live in a beach city we are most interested in Manta and Salinas. Thanks
