Hi Everyone,

Thought I'd ask this question to the forum. I love to work out. I like running outdoors or gyms. Are there outdoor running areas? Is it acceptable to run within one's compound? Any kind of information would be helpful. What is Saudi's policy about bike riding? Or excursions?

Thanks everyone. :)

Hello fellow Texan (?) ...

There are some outdoor running tracks - around the hospital and around the university.  However, it being outdoors, women will still be subject to the same dress code - no shorts or runnigh suit unless it is worn under the abaya.  :)

I live on a compound and the women in the compound are not subject to the same rules inside - so they can run in shorts or running suit.  No worries there.

I do not see a lot of folks on bikes - unless it is the motorized kind.

W3elcome to Riyadh!!

Thank you for the update. You're response is very helpful and yes, a TX girl from Austin. :)

hi could i ask which compound?

houstonian

I love Austin!!  I have a lot of friends who went to school there.  Interestingly enough I even saw a car here in Riyadh with a UT bumper sticker.  I was so surprised when I saw it that I had to take a picture and send to my friends back home.  hahaha

@sladepa - I live at the Sahara Towers Compound on Olaya.

Hi Houstonian,

a question is the granada compund good...?
appreciate a response . Thanks

@sladepa ... Even though I have not personally been in that compound - I have heard a LOT of good things about it.  A comment that one of my expat colleagues made is ...

"... how the heck did he get into that place ... there is a long wait list ... "  hahaha

My colleague has been here a long time and I figure that based on that response that he is jealous that you got into that compound.  Lol
