Hi everyone,

The question of the day :
When you live in Libya, is it easy for your family or your friends to visit you ? I mean to have a visa, and stay one or two weeks without passing trough a travel agency to have the document and also because they do not need a guide, as you are living in Tripoli and the will stay at home! I am wondering if my family and my friends will be able to come to visit us (they would like) easily or if we have to think that for the next 3 or 5 years we will see them, when we will spend time in vacation to visit them?
If you have any experiences, do not hesitate to share it with me, please :-)

Providing you are already a resident in Libya, arranging for friends or family to visit isn't a big problem:

- You'll need a scanned copy of the data page of the visitor's passport along with confirmed return flight reservations to/from Libya;

- Take the docs to your company PR/HR/travel department and get them to apply for tourist visas. If you don't have a department in your company to do this, you'll have to do it thru a travel agent, who will rape you stupid for money and insist that your visitors have to join an official tour party.

- Once the visas have been approved, the Libyan immigration informs the airline at the port of departure;

- All your visitors have to do is to turn up at the airport, the names of the approved visitors will be on the PAX listing. They don't actually get a visa stamp in the passport in order to travel. It sounds like a recipie for disaster, but it seems to work.

- The Libyan immigration will stamp their passports on arrival. It's absolutely vital that this stamp is obtained as if not, then problems when leaving.

Note: USA and West African passport holders ARE NOT issued with tourist visas.

So, does anybody know WHY US and west African passport holders are not issued tourist visas?  I thought US had diplomatic relations now with Libya.  Is this a recent development?

West Africans don't get tourist visas because they have the habit of entering Libya and remaining after their visa has expired. Either that, or they head to the coast and book a ride on the first rowing boat heading across the Med to Italy.

US citizens don't get tourist visas because Gadaffi still has a hard-on after Ronnie sent the F-111's to bomb the fcuk out of Tripoli and Benghazi in 1986.

and the Swiss don't get any sort of visa because Gadaffi is pi$$ed of over their treatment of his useless drug/arms dealing playboy idiot son was arrested for slapping his housegirl about in a Swiss hotel :rolleyes:
