any new mums out there??

Post new topic

newmum

Hi all ex-pats.  I am new to this site!!
My fiancee and I have an amazing opportunity to live in the Maldives for two years from March.  He is a hotel manager and I am currently a nuse but looking to take two years out to go with him.  We are also expecting our first child in February.
Are there any other women out there in a similar position to me?  I am quite anxious about taking a newborn to the Maldives and would value others experiences of bringing up a young child there.
We havnt accepted the position yet so please be honest... we havnt made up our minds yet!!

My family and myself will most probably move to the Maldives January/Februari. We have two small children (1 and 3 years old) and we believe that at this age it will be a great country/environment for them to grow up. Altough it is quite exciting to take this step! Therefore we are not (yet) in the right posistion to advise you but if we can help and/or provide you with some information please do not hesitate to let us know.
For know good luck with your decision and who knows we will meet in the Maldives!
Regards,
Fam. Mulder

Hi,

Congratulations on your baby and your fiance's job offer.  I think it depends on where you will be based.  If you will be in Male' or close by enough to get a speedlaunch there quickly then you should be ok.  My ex pat friend lived in Male' with her 2 year old and a newborn, she was very bored though because her husband was in work all day and most of the other ex pats either worked or didn't have young children so she didn't socialise much.  Maldives can be great for children, in Male' there's not much outdoor space but I guess it depends on what you are hoping to get out of it when you get there.
Will your fiance be able to take time off to spend it with you?  I am married to a Maldivian but we don't have children yet, so I'm not sure what support networks are out there for new mums.  My sister in law has a toddler, but as she's a local things are a lot easier for her!  Good luck to you both, if you do decide to move I'm sure you'll have a great time :-)
