Hi,

I am planning to visit Borobudur next weekend and was wondering if anyone is interested in seeing the Buddhist monument as well. Rgds.

Advice - There are a couple of temples there. The big one is spectacular to say the least.
You may well wish to pop up to Dieng, Wonosobo as it's only a couple of hours away.
Jogja is closer at less than an hour.

Quickest way to travel is by Air Asia to jogja and take it from there.
The taxis at the airport will rip you off big style so use a rucksack for ease of carrying and walk up to the road. You'll get a local bus to Jogja from there for about Rp4,000 and find travel to the temples on the tourist street, first right from the top of Jalan Maliaboro.
If you do use a taxi, don't let the bloke take you to any hotel. Just get off on that street (Circle K shop on the corner) and walk. The driver will take you to his mate's hotel, probably a mile or three away from anything interesting.

Lots of cheap but clean hotels on there as well.

Thanks Mas Fred. I was more thinking of arranging a private package tour - to avoid all the road side haggling. Any experience with that? Rgds

Fred

None at all.
You'll find a couple of places on that street who do fixed price tours to the temples (Both lots around Jogja) and Wonosobo area.
Not sure what they charge because we didn't use them.
Near the train station, you can hire a car with driver.
Should cost you Rp 300,000/day but he'll take you anywhere you fancy.
Make sure that includes fuel BEFORE you agree.

WARNING> The road from Jogja to Borobudur may still be closed after the volcano went bang. Check before you fly down there because the only alternative route is hours long.
