Can anyone recommend places to buy summer clothes that won't cost too much in Budapest?
We arrive in February and will be well-prepared for winter, but as summer arrives we plan on buying clothes as it gets warmer.
Where should we go?

Thanks
Steph

my favorite hobby!  Finding second-hand stores!  Hadakft.hu is the website for Hada, a second-hand clothing chain with many locations around Budapest.  Some sell clothes by the kg, some per piece.  When I arrived in August, they were having a 50% off everything sale, so I made out like a bandit!

You can also find many smaller and cheaper ones all over, look for the British flag (a lot of the second-hand clothes come from the UK) and "Hasznaltruha" -used clothing store.  Perhaps if you tell us which district you live in, people in that area can assist you?  I know of some in the X and VII districts b/c that's where I live/work/play, and I just saw a bunch on Erzsebet/Terez Korut between Blaha Lujza ter and Oktagon ter.

Funny thing is, I've been thinking of starting (or looking for an archive) a thread about this, if people can list the district, and which 2nd hand stores they like there?  There are lots around, but I really like finding ones that are super-cheap, not as nice and organized as Hada, but the price is great, and I love to alter and mend clothing!

Thanks for your reply!
We are in the V district (I am pretty sure)

You should have no problem in finding inexpensive summer clothing here, Stephanie, provided you shop right. There are sufficient second-hand and charity shops, with mostly good quality items - you just need to locate the shops.

In V District, Pozsonyi Street, a few weeks ago I bought an unused Marks & Spencer jacket for 500 forint! (That second-hand shop was having a 70% off sale). Then I bought the winter jumpers I was actually looking for at Humana on St Istvan Korut, which I believe is your street. Warm jumpers 2500 - 3000 forint.

Fashionable new clothing is not cheap and shoes seem expensive everywhere. So bring summer shoes and leave the rest would be my advice.

Forgot to add that stocks will undoubtedly change to summer wear come springtime.

Thank you Angol! Summer shoes are definitely on the list to bring, and a few favourites, plus swimwear, but other things we will buy.
I have a new suitcase and some new winter clothes (heavily reduced here in Australia now that it's summer and the outlet stores are trying to get rid of their old stock) so I will be toasty warm when we arrive, which is the main thing.
41 days til we leave - so excited!! :D

Hi Stephanie, I'm an Australian living here and happy to report that compared to the prices at home you won't have any difficulty finding affordable clothes. The chains such as Zara, H&M etc are here, and loads of discount shops prices are very reasonable. In fact, you'll be amazed at how much lower the cost of living is here than in Aus for (almost) everything.

Relax and enjoy :)

Thank you Miss V, I thought that was the case, but just checking... I'm really looking forward to shopping when we get there!

Thanks - I shop online a little at home in Aus. but here some parcels (over 45 euros I think) are subject to a hefty tax. I like to try before I buy too!!

My experience is, i went to west end city center mall for doing shopping and it was amazing. i did spent lot of money and expensive of course. Overall its great for shopping all in one roof.

Nonetheless i have seen many shops offer discount sale and that is the best chance to grab best clothes at great prices.

My English dont good yet sorry :P:D
