Hi everybody,
As the founder of this little website, I have to reckon that this is a very important topic for me. I'd like to considerably improve the website and to make it as useful as possible for people who would like to experience life abroad, and for people who are currently living out of their country.
One part of the project would be to create kind of "Moving to xxx FAQs" (replace xxx by any country name) ... but I don't know where to start ![:/](forum/img/smilies/hmm.png)
I am pretty sure there are common essential questions/problems to solve before, while and after the move, and that these questions (not the answers) are quite similar, no matter in which country you would like to settle down.
As you know, the main idea of Expat.com is to be participative. Of course you and I haven't the "global knowledge" of how to successfully set up here or there, but each one of us got answers that could help many others. I am thinking about a kind of yahoo answers system in order to build one of the most useful "expat knowledge base".
The idea would be to first list these essential questions, then to get as much answers as possible to these questions, to make you vote for/review the answers, and to capitalize the best responses in the "moving to xxx FAQs".
I've been trying to make people participate to an expat wiki for almost two years now, but it may be too complicated, and contributions (apart from that *** spam) are quite sporadic. Time to do something! ![:)](forum/img/smilies/smile.png)
What do you think?
People who know me already know that I am really, really passionate about what we're doing here, and I'd like to spend more and more time on my "little Expat.com project".
Remember that the Internet is the best communication tool we never had. Everybody can participate, and you can share your knowledge ! (Quite different than a tv program isn't it?)
NB: I know that you are already providing many answers on your blogs. A couple of months ago, one of my favorite blogs about life in Ireland has been closed and deleted. I don't know what happened. I even sent an email to the author, but I never received any answer. We've lost a valuable content that could have helped a lot of people. I hope this will never happen to moving2Italy and to Dr-expatriate guide to moving to Dominican Republicand to many others which are pure expat resources. Guys, sorry to tell you that, but a blog might not the best way to help a large number of people. And who knows what can happen to your blog platform? I personally had two years of my life in London and Madrid deleted by my blog host (which wasn't, I reckon, one of the major blog platforms). That was quite disappointing.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and help, I hope you didn't mind my poor English.
Julien, founder
