It could happen anywhere, sick people are all over the world. in
late 90s it happened in a little white trash village in Ontario.
Israelies did the same to palestinian graves.
So stop blamming libya
As a Libyan, I am embarrased and disgusted.
Mo: Ahh, sorry, keep forgetting that it's always someone elses fault.. Cant blame Libya or Libyans for what happens in Libya or is done by Libyans. It's the rest of the worlds fault...
uefastriker: it is such a shame, add to this the Journalists being held and any support that New Libya had is rapidly fading. As long as people like Mo here are around and refusing to accept any responsability support is going to dissapear.
I just said that sht like that happens anywhere it has nothing to do with Libya, bunch of sick people smoked some weed and did somthing stupid do you blame the whole country for that?
I didnt blame the world for anything.
People like me dont need people like you anyway, you need countries like mine to work for, people like you work for money.
Of course one whole country should not be blamed for the actions of a few irresponsible douche bags.... if they are appropriately prosecuted by authorities.
When "sht happens anywhere" there are measures of rule of law that are applied.
So, are they captured, prosecuted, taken to court?
Or is it same old, same old...?
Seriously, is there any form of authority, accountability present in Libya right now?

@ Mo I don't think they were smoking weed... the only thing people on weed knock over is their drink as they are goin' for that bag of munchies! The acts were deliberate on 2 different days and at 2 different cemeteries and from what I've seen and been told, were organized acts. Maybe it was because of the burning of the Holy Qur'an by US soldiers or maybe it was because of politics or maybe a combination of many factors. Will those guys get punished? nope Will the headstones be fixed up? yup It's like you said, people do really messed up stuff all over the world...but this one really stung because it happened in my beloved Benghazi. Many of my friends feel worse about it than I do. They are scouring the videos and capturing still images to identify the people responsible and making posts for them to be arrested. As an American, I still love Libya and I still love Benghazi. Who knows? I may even grow old and die there someday - but the way I feel now, I sure as hell don't want to be buried there!

Mo, most of rural Canada is sparsely populated and made up of small towns and yes, mostly white, because most new comers tend to flock to large metropolitan cities and flock to be amongst their own community. Plus there arent many jobs in rural Canada so even less reason to move out there as a new comer. But it does not mean that small town Canada is white trash or racist.

Yes, agree, of course no one was smoking weed. It was very much a planned out act to make a point. What it means no one knows for sure, but it does very much look like its going to be a while until we see unified leadership in Libya.
One could speculate that its related to the beginnings of a supposed break up which I hinted at a year ago but which never materialized. That speculation is a very weak one because it's not that easy to split up a country, plus, you can't just keep splitting it up every time people don't agree.
A unified Libya seems even further away after todays news....
And Mo_marrakech: we all work for money mate, nobody does it for free. (and so you are aware, I was asked to work in Libya to pass on my product knowledge, I never applied for a position)

Nothing to do but wait and see. But they cant split it. It was never split to begin with and has been one land a lot longer than the partitioned map you see floating around. It went from kingdom to vilayet as one land. I am sure there are many more much better and more authoritative resources if you search. The partitioning was done during colonial times by foreigners who had little concern about local peoples and probably didnt care very much about what they were doing.

Pesto Shwarma is back in El Amereekah. Based on his lax attitudes and humor, my assumption is he is probably in his winter semester at a university taking engineering or something of that nature.
If anyone can be accused of smoking something it can be the politically minded in Benghazi. Perhaps they are smoking Qatari hashish or perhaps they had been living for so long in Qaddafi's Jamaharija system that they forgot how the rest of the world works.
You can't just shake hands and divide a country in half. It doesn't work that way. It requires many lives and many years of war to divide a country. What these people are proposing is a long drawn out war.

Checks and Slovaks did it :-).. Don't you have confidence in Libyan wisdom and civility? Maybe they can do it too, who knows?

good point! To be honest I know very little about czeck and slovaks and had to read up on it. From the little I gather their situation sounded similar to slovene and their mostly peaceful separation from Yugoslavia. They had little in common with their other forced upon them republics and they were independent principalities for a long time. Maybe that's the key to peaceful separation. Having little in common.

Hey Mo, good to hear you are safe.
I have one question for you, where do you stand with Pineapple on Pizza
As for the graves, I am as appalled as everyone else but this is not a true reflection of the new Libya. Libyan radio stations have been constantly discussing the subject, the people are very upset that this happened.
Officeboy, sadly this kind of thing goes on all the time. Here's some stories from UK that didn't seem to make world headlines.

Furthermore, did you stop to ask why those journalists are being detained. Why isn't the world's press screaming for their release ?
The ntc and the libyan government condemned what happened and general public are totaly against this we never heard western governments appologize for crimes of hate committed by individuals in france groupsof people vandalized muslim graves and drew nazi signs on them racistsacts in europe almost every day western media didnt make all that fuss yes libyans are civil and wise
Good to see that you are back Harry. Still have a good supply of popcorn on hand? Moel ditched the hot sauce and tomatoe paste for pesto on both his shawarma and pasta.
Regarding the breaking up of Libya... bad idea. Libya is one which I think the majority of the people would agree. Time for everyone to stop the nonsense (infighting, power struggles etc) and start rebuilding the country. All the death and destruction for what????

I've been in Tripoli since August, haven't bothered with here as it just isn't the same anymore without Sandman, Moel and Mudman's inane posts. I've been getting my kicks elsewhere, have popcorn at the ready however should they return.
Folk aren't heading back in any great numbers yet anyhow, it's gonna be some while yet before we get anywhere approaching normal.
