Hi Canadians,

There is already a Canadian Community in Riyadh, just need to know the right people. Plus register with the Canadian Embassy Events group. Lots of Canadians can be found here just need to get into the expat parties/groups.

I'm from Ottawa BTW.

Oh also - I wouldn't suggest posting your party information publically on this forum, just have an e-mail list.

Cheers

Alex

Hi Alpha89,Welcome to Riyadh;I am from Ottawa, that's awesome what part of the city do live? I live in Kanata Lakes.Love meeting some other Canadian .

Hello, I am from an hour east of Toronto. Considering an offer with my company for 1 year in Jubail in the new year.
Questions about taxation and implications back home in Canada. I hear tax free earnings in KSA but how does it work when you come home (do you have to cut ties at home ie sell your house etc.. for it to be considered tax free income?)  One of the many questions as I ready to review offer. I would be coming over single status while leaving family at home for the year.

alpha89

Yes you have to severe primary and secondary ties, you can find more information on the CRA website or a quick google search.

There are certain tax benefits depending on the field you are working in. For example; I'm working in the engineering industry so I will be eligible for 80% tax reduction when I return to Canada, or no taxes if I severe my ties correctly. You have to fill out certain forms, it seems to be quite the pain in the ass (I don't blame them).

I would suggest hiring somebody to do this for you. I cancelled my OHIP and severed most of my ties before I came here, including selling my car. (I don't own property)

Cheers

Alex

puckbunny

Thank you for the quick reply Alex.

I will do some morre research.
