Hey, just found this site. I am thinking of an extended (8 month) visit to central America..I think?! Costa Rica I am thinking at this point.... but open to other venues. I am a Community Mental Health Nurse..but have experience in emerg nursing as well..
My initial plan is to try to work to cover my expenses...live as frugally as possible but be able to enjoy the experience...AKA get out and meet people, see the sights...have some fun..maybe that is naive...thus my membership on this site :)
Don't know where to start...need guidance/ideas/

Hi,
I just spent half a year in Costa Rica with my wife. Nice place. Lots of things to do and places to visit.
But AFAIK it is not possible to work in Costa Rica, at least legally. You can own the company, but only locals can be employees.
We as urban people lived in San Jose traveling for several days to other places. Made one visa run to Nicaragua (Granada) because legal stay only 90 days (could also prolong your stay in Migracion, but we planned to visit Nicaragua anyway). Nice place to see - and quite affordable. Just $150 for two persons including accommodation (room with private bathroom in hostel), bus tickets and border tax.

What about working on a resort owned by a US company....for example working as a nurse responding to issues of tourists on the resort....would something like that be legal?
