Anyone been to Rodrigues who could tell me what it's like?

I was there in year 2001, i have learnt its has changed a bit. Bus stops operating at 16:00 in the evening and all shops are closed at that time. Rocky and mountainous island, many bends on roads. Roads not that practicable, hope it is better now. Roads found on hills and mountains are steep & slopes. One good thing is peace, its very peacefull, its sea is blue.

I've been told that it's like Mauritius was 30-40 years  ago.  Very uspoilt.

Thanks Wendy. I haven't been to Mauritius yet and wonder, with 1.3 million, how crowded Mauritius is. I hope to get to Rodriques when I come over to compare. Reunion too.

Hi! Had a great time there, stayed in Saint Francois area which is after the Cotton Bay hotel. The owners there claimed its the only place in Rodrigues with the most beautiful beach. Rodrigues reminded me also a bit of Madagascar, it has an african touch. People wake up early to work in their fields. Many houses dont have walls around them like in Mauritius my first impression when i got out of the airport. Its hilly, views are fantastic. Many places are also well maintained that you can visit. The wildlife has more plants than Mauritius wildlife. And in history Rodrigues was once the granary of Mauritius - this small little drop. Its special in many ways - i can really recommend it to you. If you want to see photos, PM me and i'll send you my online gallery link.

Thank you Dietmar. I don't need pictures, just looking for peoples impressions of the island. You're a great help.
